Only major need is custom AC lines made. All AC components are in place. Most AC shops can do this. I can even have it done for you with a day or twos notice. All lines made and system charged I was quoted $400 locally. Could be done yourself for a lot less with the use of a crimper from a hydraulic shop.
There isn't much the truck will not go over/through. The toyota makes a great frame for the diesel swap. I expect this truck to be going long after many cars being produced today are done.Rear window works. radio, cd with speakers work well. Interior everything functions and pretty clean truck inside. Running about 23-24mpg with no MAF, normal city/highway driving (If you put around, Ive gotten 27-28). You could reinstall MAF (not necessary) and reflash with Malone for even higher mpg. The front end is completely not aerodynamic, you could put a skid plate on or go to AT or road tires and hit 30mpg fairly easily. A green diesel engineering tune would be good for another 10% MPG. This motor is currently making much better power than the original gas motor, about 150hp/250ftlb torque, with a lot of room for more if one is so inclined. The center console everything is there, and it functions but the hinge is broken. Driver side mirror is broken. Truck has various dings in it, one of the rear lower side bumpers is banged up, but not really noticeable with the coating. All the glass is good. All interior panels and components are there. Headliner good, seats fold, no rips, no major smells, etc. Low mileage on the truck frame so interior isnt that worn. No weather leaks. After the coating was applied to the exterior it caused the hood to catch a little right in the center rear. I havent addressed it yet. The rear brakes are all new and need to be adjusted but they work fine. No grinds or issues with the tranny or 4wd. The 35" tires are a little tall but the truck has no shortage of torque. In my opinion I would probably go 33's or slightly larger to achieve optimal gearing but the current set up runs fine.
I liked the end result of this truck, so I am selling this 4wd crawler type rig to upgrade to a more polished 1999 4runner limited TDI setup to be my DD. It will be more of an all around/road setup. Rather than detune this one, the time it will take me to take everything off and sell it a part at a time, I would just be paying myself for the work, so going to let someone have this truck as is. The opening bid is the amount I have in the parts alone, no labor. Everything listed has less than 5k miles on it.
Any questions please ask, I will try to get interior shots up in the next few days to show the added gauges, etc. It is no surprise that these swaps are becoming more and more popular. Auto manufacturers are just now getting smaller diesels in to small utility type trucks, and they are still ridiculously expensive and unproven platforms. The VW TDI motor and the toyota off road frame are about as time tested as it gets. Further, itd be hard to argue with the statement that the TDI motor currently beats up on every diesel toyota ever made. The TDI motor is also a great fit to replace the 3.0 and the later 3.4l toyota gas motors, having a similar power band. The BEW, like the earlier ALH, is a more expensive and involved swap than the more popular, even earlier AHU/1z and has much greater power potential with less expense to get there. A VNT 17 or 17/22 turbo is a plug and play upgrade for the BEW that for around $800/$1200 will yield much higher numbers if desired. The same cannot be said for upgrading turbos on the older tdi.
In the final photo. There is no weird smoke tint, just odd reflection of the sky.
