1988 Suzuki Samurai for Sale - A classic for sure!
1988 Suzuki Samurai
The Suzuki Jimny was known and loved as the Samurai
In 1986 the Samurai was introduced into the US Market. Itscatchy marketing / advertising commercial “Beep, Beep, Hi!”, and it'scheap and affordable price of $8500; Salessoared well past the projected 1200 per month, to a recorded 47,000 buyers in the first year. By year 3over 150,000 Samurais were sold in the US.
Its compact size made it stand out from the other big and bulky, off-road SUV's and trucks. People soon realized that Samurai could go places that even the more accomplished off-roaders couldn’t. It could squeezepastobstacles that would stop the Wrangler or Scout dead in their tracks.

Then in 1988 - drumroll -an employee of Consumer Reports rolled the test car and gave it an "unacceptable" rating along with the comment - "easily" rolls over in turns. The company insistedNHTSA issuea recall, but the damage was done. The Consumer Report spread like wildfire and the Samurai's sales plunged by 70-percent.
In 1996, Suzuki sued CR for $60 million in damages and unspecified punitive damages. Both the companies settled out of court in 2004. In the settlement, CR agreed to mention the agreement that it "never intended to imply that the Samurai easily rolls over in routine driving conditions." And it notes that it "never questioned the the safety of any other Suzuki model" and, in fact, "praised theSuzukisidekick andrecommendedthe Suzuki Vitara / XL - 7"
Those who loved her called her their little Sammy - she was a bit of a gypsy. Going where the wind blew her, daring, free spirited, a little beast.
People who had Samurai's cherish those memories, they love them, and miss them; Suzukifans say "the speed will get youhigh".
Setting records - The Samurai holds a Guinness World Record that is still unbeaten.
An adventure duo from Chile holds the record for driving to the highest altitude by car. Which car, you ask? The duo, Gonzalo Bravo and Eduardo Canales, climbed 6,688 m (21,942 feet) on the slopes of the Ojos Del Salado volcano, Atacama, Chile on 21 April 2007 in a 1986 modified Suzuki Samurai.
When the drivers of a Jeep Wrangler arrived at the top. The sign read:“Jeep Parking Only: All others don’t make it up here anyway.”Gonzalo and Eduardo passed this sign and brought it back with them. To this day, the Samurai’s record remains unbeaten. Jeep was happy that Consumer Reports damaged Samurai reputation, as quickly Samurai would have become a threat to the Wrangler.
She has become a classic with the status of a groupie following. Owned by the rugged type, because they like it rough and dangerous. Music like Billy Ocean - Get Outta my Dreams, Get into My Car, or Guns and Roses, Paradise City, could be heard blaring from theaftermarket CD Player and Speakers – that our Sammy has.
When she was on the beach she was aspicy girl magnet, cheers to bandanas and bikinis!
Sammy’s were famous and talked about.
· The Hawaii Mud Bombers wrote a song about the Suzuki Samurai;
· Early in AMC's hit zombie franchise,The Walking Dead, a Samurai is prominently parked at the human refugee camp.
The Samurai represents an off-road genre, a rambunctious SUV, agile andsignificantly smaller thana modern Jeep Wrangler. Straight-line speed is lacking, but the Sammy's humble virtues include a 2100-pound curb weight, a manual transmission, and manual steering. There's deep aftermarket support and a variety of clubs for owners. The Samurai also gets decent gas mileage and has a reputation for ruggedness.
If you find a Sammy that has spent its life as the RV tender for road-tripping retirees, buy it. And if you don't find one like that - here's your chance to buy this classic and bring back great memories!
