1962 grand touring car, first year, designed by Brook Stevens.
1962 Studebaker Hawk Gran Turismo
Vehicle DetailsThis is my 1962 Studebaker Gran Turismo (GT) Hawk. I'm her third owner from new and she was my very first car. I'm selling her because its been five years of fun but now its time for someone else to enjoy her. I don't want to be one of those old men with a rusted hulk saying "I'll restore her one of these days" forty years down the line, after all. This GT Hawk was ordered new by a Ms. Helen Potter in Sacramento, CA without power steering or power brakes (now rectified by a Turner disk brake kit) but with the Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission, Twin Traction limited slip differential, and air conditioning. All of these work flawlessly.THE GOOD:- Interior insulation fitted - 2017- Custom trunk carpeting made and fitted - 2017- Turner front disk brake kit installed, with Turner specializing in Studebakers - 2018- Rear drum brakes rebuilt - 2018- New distributor installed - 2018- New generator installed - 2019- New fuel lines installed - 2019- New fuel pump installed - 2022- New cap, rotor, and points installed - 2022- Car in overall nice mechanical and cosmetic condition, with much of the original rustproofing still on the frame.THE BAD:- Float in the original Carter four barrel carburetor is stuck. Will need to either be rebuilt or replaced in order for this GT Hawk to be drivable. Therefore, I'm selling this car as a very nice condition project.- Minor rust on the inner trunk lid lip (see photo).- Chrome flaking off some of rear bumper (see photo).- Dent in driver's side door (see photo).- Scrape in front bumper (see photo). This GT Hawk, body number 3295 out of a total of 9335 made in 1962, has been featured in the following publications and events:- The Wall Street Journal on July 3, 2019 and again on December 30, 2019.- The December 2019 edition of “Classic and Sports Car” - a very notable UK based enthusiast publication- Several YouTube videos, most notably on Scotty Kilmer’s channel- The 2020 Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance as a part of the "30 under 30 group".- The July 2020 issue of “Turning Wheels” - the Studebaker Drivers Club’s official publication- Hagerty’s (major classic car insurance provider) “Rides from the Readers” column - March 25, 2021Included in this listing is a fitted car cover specifically for a GT Hawk, a never-used fire extinguisher, and the file detailing the known history of the car as well as the service history of both myself as well as the previous owner. Buyer is responsible for handling the shipping. Payment can be handled either through Escrow or via mailing me a check. If you have any questions regarding the listing or require some more information that I didn't include here, please let me know through eBay messages. Thank you for your interest and happy bidding!
