This historic car needs a full restoration.

It was a factory show car and deserves a new owner who will restore it back to show quality.

The 1964 Los Angeles Auto Show started with a invitational Thursday night preview with motion picture personalities and dignitaries viewing the cars. Ivan Scott's band played movie hits and famous designers showed outfits on live mannequin models matching the cars (including Avanti).

Studebaker also displayed feature cutaways of engines, a unitized body and disc brakes operation. The Show was right after Studebaker's new 1964 models running at Bonneville Sept 15th and had the Avanti-R5 brought over to the show with longlines to see the Avanti and Granatelli at the show. Studebaker had just broken many land speed records on the salt flats and this Superhawk was on display with Studebaker promoting new 64 models having performance and good looks.

We purchased this car 27 years ago from a person who saved it upon arrival at a salvage yard. I drove it 10 miles to get inspected and placed it in our storage barn.

Although we got it from California, it spent time near the ocean salt air. There is various rust areas such as rocker panel, hood has been damaged and the vinyl tops were known to hold moisture, but is a good restoration candidate. We hope to see this return as a Cinderella Show Car once again some day!

To show that the engine does turn over, we carefully soaked the cylinders and then ran some gas shown in the Video Link:

Do not ask if it can be driven home, or what it will take to drive it!

It will need a Full Restoration! When done you will have a very rare, desirable, fast and historic car to enjoy.
