Description:

1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk

Recently sold on ebay but buyer was allowed to back out due to a major illness.

Great example of a survivor 1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk. This beautiful coupe body style has had just 400 miles added since a 26 year slumber. Currently about 63,500 miles.I recently awoke this Hawk. It runs great! No smoke, quick start, plenty of pep, good compression every cylinder.

Equipped from the factory with the 170 Cubic Inch Studebaker Six Cylinder Motor, 3-speed Studebaker Borg-Warner Factory Overdrive, 4.27 Rear End. It is an almost rust free car. All glass is good. All fenders and doors are rust-free and chrome is straight and in very good shape. Some light rust on the rear bumper but it is hardly noticeable. Excellent to have fun with as-is or to make into a street rod as the body is so straight. Has a working aftermarket radio. 1959 Hawk production was 7,788 units total. 2,417 were six cylinder cars. Inspection sticker from 4-10-1993 shows 63,065 miles. Body# 59S-C6 1281. It spent the last 30 years or so in the dry San Antonio climate.

Here is a list of what I have done to get it back on the road.

·Brakes - New brake light switch, wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes, and master cylinder

·Tune up - plugs, points, condenser, plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor

·Cleaned carburetor and fuel system.Rebuilt the fuel pump

·Added a 12 volt fuel pump at the tank and replaced fuel tank gauge sending unit

·Changed motor oil and filter andGreased

·Installed radiator to hood seal

·Repaired and rebuilt emergency brake system

·Replaced tail light lens and bulbs - all lights and horn work

·Repaired heater core.Replaced all engine radiator and heater hoses

·Replaced heater temperature control regulator and duct hose

·Installed new black molded carpet, kick panels, and sound deadner.

·Cleaned and lubricated headlight and heater control switches

·Had hood and top painted - Buffed out rest of the car

·No sign of Bondo anywhere. A refrigerator magnet sticks anywhere.

·Car runs pleasantly and straight at 60 MPH Has 6" Chrysler Rims!

·New stock muffler on a very good exhaust and tail pipe.

·All gauges work well and look nice as does chrome on the steering wheel

This Hawk runs and drives great. The overdrive works as new. Car runs up to 55 in third, lift off the gas pedal, car shifts into overdrive, then car easily runs up over 70 MPH. [The overdrive is a .7 multiplier so figure 4.27 differential times .7 is in effect a 2.99 differential.] Automatically shifts out of overdrive at less than 28 MPH. The Studebaker engine runs the car quicker than you would think, since the rear end is so low there is a quick take off! The car paint is a "10 footer" with the mostly original paint. Detail photos will show cracks and problems with the paint in several places. Some rattle can repaint on spots but the car shines up well and has been fun to show at local car shows. Everyone loves those fins! I am a longtime Studebaker fan. I have had a GT Hawk for over 10 years plus several others have come and gone. I am retired and like to buy quality cars and get them up on their feet. I am not a dealer per-se as I only keep one or two cars for sale. But I do have a dealer license with a buddy. We manage to sell 5-6 cars a year. This is a sweet car and deserves a great home!

The negatives

·The interior is straight and not ripped or torn but is not Studebaker. Don't have any idea where it came from. Vinyl headliner is in good shape.Tires are decent but are ten years old. Came off of another car I had.Trunk lining is not Studebaker. It is just trim shop stuff someone else put in. Looks fine.Car has one rusted floorboard on the driver's side. It is not large. See picture. It was patched long ago with some roofing material. I'll show in photos. I have elected not to bother with it as it is super strong. All other areas including the trunk are rust-free.Weather seal on the doors is poor and will need to be changed eventually.Hub caps are a later year.Has a one inch round dent in an otherwise nice dashboard.Has two cracks and an indention in the steering wheel from a steering knob.
