1957 Studebaker Commander

Up for a LOW RESERVE auction is an awesome and rare 1950's time capsule. Here I have a low mileage, original and untouched Studebaker Commander. When was the last time you saw one?
Same family owners for almost 50 years! I have a detailed history of the car going back to new. Nephew of original PA owner purchased the car from his aunt who was no longer able to drive in the early 1970's. Both aunt and nephew drove the car sparingly alway thus keeping the mileage incredibly low (40,500!!) Interior is as close to perfect as you can get. Get this, the Studebaker dealer installed the seat covers as you see them in the pics! The original upholstery is hiding beneath and has not been exposed since new. My plan was to remove the covers but they are so period correct I decided to keep them on. Car is mostly basic with manual steering and brakes (but surprisingly not difficult to drive.) and radio delete. The only three options the car has, according to the build sheet which I have is the automatic transmission, Twin Traction differential and white wall tires.
I can't stress the originality of the car enough. The only change was the two front fenders in the early 70's. According to the nephew, his aunt was notorious for hitting the garage door opening when exiting to do errands. He replaced both fenders when he obtained it since the NOS sheet metal was still available and he didn't know for how much longer. Other than that, all the sheetmetal AND PAINT is original to the car. At some point, the tires were upgraded to Coker wide white reproductions with RADIAL TREAD. A huge bonus there. Car rides great.
Mechanically the car is sound. Runs strong and quiet. Transmission shifts smoothly and goes down the road great. Gets stares and thumbs up at every red light. If I had to nit pick I'd say the brakes could use some attention/adjustment and if the car sits for a long period of time, the choke needs the assistance of a squirt of starting fluid or fuel for a quicker start. I have a spare Stromberg carburetor to go with the car if you so decide to have one rebuilt.
I'm selling only because I need the room. Too many toys! I have a 57 Packard Clipper which is basically the same car (shhhhhh!) so having the Commander is redundant. My reserve is less than I paid. Would like it to go to a good home before winter. PLEASE don't bid unless you are serious about purchasing. Non paying bidders ruin it for the rest of us. Any questions please ask.
