Description:
1955 Studebaker Conestoga
History:This is an1955 Studebaker Conestoga Commander station wagon, it is an earl 55 and that means it has a 53-54 style front windshield instead of the 56wrap around style. I purchased the car over 20 years ago from the original owners son so I know this car has spent its entire life in south west Idaho.Body:The car has original paint. The roof is in perfect condition, the floor under the rear seat is in good condition and the floor of the spare tire well only has surface rust. The rusted areas are lower rear part of front fenders, small hole at theinner front of drivers fender near prop rod mount, battery box and inner fender beneath battery box, lower part of weather strip channel by the tail gate, back of drivers side quarter panel behind rear bumper, and the floor boards were rustedbut rust areas have been cut out and replaced with sheetmetal. The body isvery strait with only minor damage to front fenders, grill, front valance and drivers rear quarter, (see photos).Thedrivers rear quarter was repaired longbefore I purchased the car, and thereis another front valance, left and right grill parts that are included with the car.Interior:The seats were reupholstered 20 years ago but are still in decent condition. Door panels are original andneed replaced. Headliner material is gone except for the front panel but all the bows are still in place.Rear inside quarter panels are still intact, but have water staining.Rear deck wood and linoleum need replaced.Retractable shoulderseat belts, floor mount style out of a VW Jetta, were added(my children were in car seats when it was my daily driver). The ignition switch bezel is broken (this is typical of mid 50s Studebakers) switch is currently being held in the dash with a zip tie.Glass:Front and rear windows are in good condition, allof the side glass which is just flatglass is starting to separate(has small bubbles forming around the edges)and needs replaced, one slider is cracked but there is anewone in the extra parts to replace it.upper wing window pivots are broken.Drive train:To the best of my knowledge the engine and transmission are original and have never been rebuilt. The car runs and drives but the transmission seams toslip going into reverse. Therear end was replaced with a Ford 8.8 out of a 1990 ranger, has 3.55 gears which is what the Studebaker rear had.Brakes: The brakes work but I think the master cylinder needs replaced or rebuilt (the pedal gets soft after sitting for a day).Emergency brake lever is broken where it attaches to the cable.Electrical:6V generator was replaced with a 12v alternator, all bulbs were replaced with 12v bulbs, but the blower motors, wiper motor and fuel gauge are still 6 v units. It needs a new battery.Wheels and tires:All tires need replaced and the car needs a front end alignment.Comes with 4 slotted unilugwheels but only two of them havetires hold air, and the drivers front still has the factory left hand wheel studs and I don't have any left handed shouldered lug nuts, so there are 2 ford steel wheels on the front and a stock Studebaker wheel for the spare. I have 2 other stock Studebaker wheels I could throw in if the buyer wants them.Fuel system:The stock mechanical fuel pump has been replaced with a carter electric fuel pump with a filter in between the tank and the pump, it works fine but tank could use to be flushed.Misc: the car has a factory radio delete plate and a fold outtissue dispenser and airplane type seat belts in the front. I have 2 Keys for the car a replacement style key and the original Studebaker fold out key.Buyer is responsible for shipping, $500Pay Pal deposit is required within 24 hours of end of auction balance is to be paid in full with in 7 days of end of auction. Title will not be released and car will not be shipped until all funds have cleared.
