1950 Studebaker Champion
Starlite Coupe
Bullet Nose
This is a 1950 Studebaker Champion Starlite Coupe. Flathead 6cyl.
3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This is a nice driver car
that I bought my father in 2008 when he was dying of lung cancer. He
had told me for years he wanted one since his father (my grandfather)
was a Studebaker man when my dad was young. I refused to let him get one for years since I didn't like their styling but as soon as I found out my fathers condition I knew I had to get him his dream car to enjoy before he passed. I found this car in Perry, Ohio and it was on ebay at the time and was ending without time for me to do much but bid. I did win the auction and my father did get to enjoy it for about 6 months before he died. I guess it was meant to be in a way. It runs and drives great and turns heads and gets comments anywhere it goes. I haven't driven it much since my father has been gone but every once in awhile my son and I take it for a ride. Factory drive line is still in the car and it runs good. Clutch and transmission work as they should. I haven't tried the overdrive lately. The previous owner put a new switch on dash to engage it and I think you can see it in one of the pics. It has OD on the knob. This car is a positive ground so it is a little tricky in figuring out wiring so that might be why he added that. I don't know for sure. Hill Holder Clutch still works. It has the extra factory bumper trim front and rear. Windshield visor and factory Studebaker Fog Lights that were made by Unity. The seats, carpet and door panels in the interior were redone at some point. The dash and headliner look original to me. The car has an enamel paint job on it and looks good but you can see some bodywork in some places. Lower door on drivers side has some patch work showing but from far away you never see it. The car looks great all around but there are some small things showing here and there. Most notable is some rust bubbles under the paint on bottom edge of trunk lid. It is not a concourse quality show car by any means but what I would call a good solid driver. The car is just the way I bought it aside from some small things I did to it. I rebuilt the carb,
added a factory working clock that works. I changed the radio that was reworked. New Ignition Key switch. New Door lock cylinders. Left and right Side view Mirrors. New battery this year. There is a box of extra dash parts with some gauges and switches and other misc that goes with it. My Father bought some after market Rear Fender Skirts that we never painted or installed and they will go with the car also. Trunk carpet will need to be replaced as previous owner had a battery sitting on it when I bought the car so it got ruined from that. The car could use a good detailing to make it even more eye catching. It is old and not perfect and will need some attention to small things but it's a great start if you want a Starlight Coupe Bullet Nose or you can just wash it and drive it as it is as we have done and just enjoy it. The speedometer works and shows 39,450 but I think speedometer was change at some point as title shows 39,301 but says non-actual (descrepancy). You can see we didn't drive it much from the miles in the last 8 years. These cars seem to be rather rare and you just don't see them anymore. I'm sure I might be missing some info somewhere on it since it has been a few years but if I think of it I will add it to auction or you can always message me and I will try and answer what I can.
The car will not leave my possession until cash is in my hand or all funds clear. ..Thanks for looking..
