This 1951 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe was a first place show winner at the 2012 Studebaker Drivers Club International Meet and is in excellent restored condition. It has 24,000 actual miles and sports a striking Shenandoah green exterior and a light gray cloth interior. The original and detailed 170 cubic inch (straight) six cylinder engine produces 85 horsepower and idles and revs very smooth with plenty of "pep". The three speed manual transmission with overdrive shifts crisply and decisively. The body, interior, engine and engine compartment have been completely restored and everything works well. The paint is very good and the chrome is deep and brilliant. The car has newer original style bias ply white sidewall tires that are in good condition with no cracking and with plenty of tread. Mechanically, electrically, and cosmetically this car is ready to drive and show and itdrives straight and true down the road with no brake pull. The steering box is tight with little play in the steering.
ThisChampion has always been garaged since restored and has been shown primarily at Studebaker Drivers Club events since the 1990's. This design classic is owned, operated and maintained by a family of dedicated mechanically knowledgeable enthusiasts whose grandfather and father once owned and worked at the family's Studebaker dealership in northeastern Illinois.
A little automotive history: This beautiful car was designed at one of the world renowned "Raymond LoewyIndustrial Design" styling studios within the hallowed walls of "Studebaker Corporation" in South Bend Indiana. Famed designers Raymond Loewy, Virgil Exner and Bob Bourke were the key stylists who brought to life the brilliant styling of this magnificent mid-century modern automobile. Today, these legendary Industrial Designers are acknowledged as the Studebaker "Hero Stylists" to members ofthe (SDC) "Studebaker Drivers Club".
