1942 Studebaker M-16
I am offering for your consideration my 1942 Studebaker truck. I purchased the truck last year to drive my kids around and have fun and maybe use for occasional landscape products. I have since purchased another vehicle so now one has to go. Let me say that I have a lot of appreciation and admiration for this truck. This truck cannot only be used as a cruising or parade truck, ut it is also a strong working truck, s well. The truck spent most of its life on a Montana farm until the previous owner purchased it for his Montana farm, hen moved to Ohio and brought the truck with him to use here on his farm in Ohio. He would haul bails of hay piled high with the bed side extensions (that are shown laying on the floor bed in the photo) and pulled a full hay trailer at the same time. He decided he was done with the truck and didn’t need it anymore. This is when I purchased it. The truck runs and drives excellent. The engine runs quiet and doesn’t smoke. It runs 40-psi oil pressure. The engine doesn’t have any oil or coolant leaks. The antifreeze is at -25 degree. The engine and everything under the hood looks original to me. There is an exhaust leak – sounds like where the header pipe meets the exhaust manifold. When the truck sits a long time, ou have to prime it down the carburetor with gas and then it is fine after that. It has a two-speed rear axle, hich works great. All six tires and tubes are BRAND NEW not recaps. The rears are Dennan Express and the fronts are Springfields. They are all 7.50-20 size. The six-volt battery is NEW. Yes the truck still has a six-volt system. The clutch, ransmission and emergency brake work well with no issues. The right rear wheel cylinder recently leaked so there are no brakes until it gets replaced. The brakes worked well before then with a new master cylinder. The dump bed works great (very impressive). It is strong and smooth. This is a Heil Hydraulic Hoist Model # EE 366 S/N 231619. This is a professional installation not something that was put together with miscellaneous parts. The PTO and hydraulic cylinder are in great shape as well as all the links and joints. Both the frame and wood for the bed are in excellent condition. This truck, f desired, s ready to work as it was originally intended, o haul and dump farm products, andscape products or whatever. The chassis and underside of the cab are solid. The cab has rust through on the passenger side floor, rivers door outside lower skin, ab corners and along the bottom edge of the rear of the cab. All easy repairs – nothing complicated about them. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PHOTOS!! The rest of the floors and under the seat are solid. The rockers in and out as well as the door sills, re very solid. The truck body, enders, tc. all have dents in them that need to be worked out. This truck was used as it was meant to be used so it has dents. The truck was painted with spray cans by the previous owner to help preserve it. Underneath that is the original paint. All the glass is good but the door glass is hard to roll up & down. As for the seat, t is covered in levi jeans pants – pretty fitting for the truck. As for the lights, haven’t tried them, didn’t care much but I do know the previous owner disconnected the turn signals because they would get turned on and drain the battery. This truck has a lot of character, ollectability as well as working value if you wish. It comes with a reproduction manual. From what I understand, his is a fairly rare truck with less than 2,676 produced in 1942. A large number of these trucks also served in the Russian forces as part of aid given to the country by the US. This leads me to believe even less remain still around in the USA today. I took a short video of the truck, ot very good but the best I could do at the time by myself. I didn’t take the bed all the way up due to the loose wood in the bed.
