Vintage Saab 96 Monte Carlo 850 with Factory Sunroof
Up for your consideration today is a 1966 Saab 96 Monte Carlo 850 Sunroof. Long ago someone put a V4 in place of the old two stroke so don't hate too long.... It's now got working AC so I didn't complain in this year's Texas heat. :-)
So here's the good.:
It runs and drives with a dependable rebuilt V4. Less than 150 miles on it. Mild cam, Larger valves and a 2 barrel progressive Weber. Aluminum gears. New radiator with new hoses and with Dual electric fans with thermostatic switch. New fuel lines and electric fuel pump. New Exhaust front to back. New Battery relocated to the trunk. Working AC with factory interior ducting, new compressor, new hoses and new other AC components. 4 Speed trans with working freewheel. All new brakes with braided stainless soft lines, VW master cylinder, rebuilt calipers and wheel cylinders, Cibie Oscars front and rear, Marchal headlights pictured will NOT go with the car ( earmarked for another project) but I'll install some nice Hella H4's for you. The other lenses look good. New Yokohama rally tires with original MC 4 bolt wheels. No spare tire but the rim is there. New KYB shocks, 80mm front sway bar from XP performance.
It's got a cool factory sunroof with original cover and headliner.
It has the MC steering wheel and gauges. Dash pad looks good. All the glass looks good with chrome rear pop outs. Trunk panel behind the rear seat has been replaced. Stock factory interior with MC headrests and front seat belts. Clear Texas title in my name.
And the bad...:
It has some rust. Nothing terrible but there are issues in the floors, sills and a small hole by the antennae. The trunk is dry but the the spot welds look like they snapped at some point and the seam has come off at the forward edge.
The car was Originally B5L ( Glacier Blue) but was repainted White. The paint is an old lacquer job so it's crazing and cracking all over. It looks good in the photos but up close - you'll see small cracks everywhere. All the chrome work is original and is no longer super shiny. Seats are pretty soft and some of the seams are splitting. Steering wheel is a little dry. The low fuel level light doesn't work and the fuel gauge jumps around a bit. The clock does not work and the wipers are loose on the shafts. The horn only works sometimes. Reverse lights do not work. The rear seat has a quarter size burn hole. The seatbelts are crusty. The dome light is missing the lens.
So - its ready for you to tear it apart and begin a cosmetic restoration or drive it as is and enjoy it. Either way it's something worth owning.
The Car is at my warehouse in Garland Texas - Just outside Dallas. I can meet your transporter at almost any time.
