1965 Rolls-Royce Other --

Beautifully kept SCIII finished in factory color combination! This special order example is nicely equipped with electric window lifts, power steering, air conditioning, outside mirrors, front badge bar, and lambskin interior rugs! A super 3-owner example with numbers matching drivetrain and excellent looks inside and out! Replacing the important but not tremendously popular Silver Dawn in 1955 was the Silver Cloud, offering body-on-frame construction, permitting both the typical Pressed Steel Company bodies but also alternate configurations. In its sophomore year,... it introduced power steering and air conditioning to the Rolls-Royce line for the first time. It was successful but by 1959 Rolls-Royce sought to further separate itself from the competition and introduced a new 6.2L V8 to replace the old 4.9L Inline 6. This car became the Silver Cloud II and was equally successful over its three year run, where power steering became standard and power windows found their way onto the option list. But the ultimate Silver Cloud was released in 1963; featuring a 220 lb. lighter body with new quad headlights, upgraded 2" SU carburetors replacing the previous 1¾" units, and 9:1 compression. The Silver Cloud III became one of the best high speed luxury saloons of the 1960's. Seeing as the newest Silver Cloud is now over 50 years old possessing more of earth's natural resources than most modern luxury sedans, along with arguably much more class, they should be the staple in any Rolls-Royce collection for its combination of elegant styling with modern drivability. We are pleased to offer this 1965 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III finished in factory ordered Shell Grey Metallic over Scarlett Red Leather Hides, Fawn headliner and Cherry Red carpets! Fitted with its original, number matching 6.2L V8 engine with Hydramatic automatic transmission and 3.08:1 rear axle, it continues to start, run, and drive simply wonderfully! Optioned from the factory with Rolls Royce Electric Windows, Firestone white-sided tubeless tyres (now Coker American Classic radials measuring 235/75R15), Lucas fog lamps, plain Sundyn window glass, passenger vanity mirrors, Blaupunkt New Yorker AM/FM radio with electric aerial (updated to a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/Sat-ready unit), and electric rear window defrost. Later additions include air conditioning, dual outside mirrors, lambskin rugs in Scarlett Red, front badge bar, and Irvin Safety 3-point seat belts up front & standard lap belts in the rear. It was originally ordered new by Mr. George D. Cornell for his wife Harriet W. Cornell. George was a generous philanthropist originally based in Central Valley, NY, but later a longtime resident of the Delray Beach, FL after graduating Rollins College in Orlando in 1935. The Cornell's are best known for their connection to New York's Cornell University, which George's descendants founded in 1865. His own father had been part of the first graduating class of law students in 1889 and went on to work as a prominent attorney in New York and became director & legal counsel for the IBM Corporation throughout his entire life. George and Harriet would take delivery on September 24th, 1965 and use their gorgeous Silver Cloud III frequently through about 1989, maintaining ownership all their lives, only parting with it after settling their estate in 2003. It would have consistent service records from new through December 1989 when the car had 91,241 miles on the odometer. When it sold in 2003 to the second owners based in Bristol, VA in October 2003, the odometer showed only 91,552 supporting infrequent use during their later years. A final sale to it most recent owner of the past 14 years transpired in June 2005 would show only 91,687 miles odometer. The exterior paint has been beautifully refinished, while the chrome and stainless bright work remain original and in excellent condition! The front & rear interior seating leather has been reupholstered in 2010. The upper door wood moldings, dash face, and rear tray tables remain in superb original condition! Overall, we would rate the car's appearance as 'excellent' presenting a striking appearance both inside and out. Comprehensive servicing would commence with Herbert Automotive (Rolls Royce & Bentley specialists based in Metairie, LA) the summer of 2006 and remain in their expert care until today. From regular fluid changes, transmission services, rebuilding of the power steering box, carburetor rebuilds, new air conditioning equipment, necessary engine gaskets, to a complete brake overhaul in 2014, it received necessary care whenever needed. It is complete with small tool set, complete large tool set with flashlight, spare tire, all factory Triplex XXX glass, Marston Excelsior radiator, original carburetors, Lucas components, lambskin rugs, Schoellkopf/Inskip card & chassis/build sheet copies provided courtesy of the Rolls Royce Foundation. It also retains all original body tags, proper chassis plates, and became a frequent RROC vehicle at club events even taking home a Touring Class ribbon along the way.
