The Silver Cloud III is regarded as the finest model built in the Silver Cloud series. Introduced in 1959, the Silver Cloud II was the first Rolls Royce to beat the likes of Bentley in production numbers and serve as one of the bestselling luxury cars at the time. It was quoted as a car with effortless speed and extreme quietness with a V8 engine. In 1962, the Silver Cloud III was introduced carrying the same V8 engine with more power and boasting a new design. Contemporary trends led to four headlights, a lower hood and radiator shell, and smaller bumpers. The interior was less pre-WWII design and featured a padded rail above the dash, separate front seats (no longer a bench seat), and more leg room in the front and back. This was luxury at its best. Ending in 1965, the Silver Cloud marked the end of the Coach built series of cars for Rolls Royce as they moved in the direction of building cars as they do today.
