Description:

1964 Porsche 356 C Coupe

Per attached Kardex & COA, have quite a unique Porsche 356C for sale. The only information that PCNA was able to locate was the VIN & Engine Serial#. The engine has been verified as numbers-matching, ut other than that it’s essentially a blank slate. Consequently, t presents a unique opportunity for a collector to "build" the car to match their desires.
Car has been multiple colors including signal red, ow driver quality Porsche sky blue (#6403). It is not an exaggeration to say it us truly only a high-endpaint job away from being a concours-level 356…..or drive as-is in comfort with incredible performance. We are seriously considering to a glass out, are metal repaint to 1964/1965 special order color RARE delphingrau (Dolphin gray #6410).
It’s an unusual car, n that the floors and all structure aresuper-solid, nd already refinished. The underside of the car has also been concours prepared in the properfinishes. There are no rust issues andall panels are properly in place as designed.
ENGINE,TRANSMISSION & RUNNING GEAR:
The matching numbers engine had a cost-no-issue $17K+ rebuild to SC specs by respected 356-expert Bob Campbell @ Auto Specialties. Additional $25k in service work by Bob w/ detailed receipts included. It was cosmetically built to a full concours standard. This car drives like the wind, s exceptionally nice as you could imagine from the money spent.
It is fresh, ith all the right stuff, nd full receipts. It starts immediately, dles beautifully, ndhas sweet, lean power throughout the rev range with no stumbles. Each of these attributes is difficult to attain in a 356 or early 911 engines. Itis wonderful--and rare--to have them all in one engine.
Everything is exactly proper for a 1964 C engine…..it's all there. Plus it has full receipts documenting every nut and bolt that was used in the rebuild.
Correct rebuilt Zenith carbs,
the proper rebuilt 022 distributor,
the colors, he finishes, he decals,
a correct stock muffler,
The new odometer shows about 2,500 miles on thenew engine
The brakes and transmission work well, ith no funny noises, lunks or clanks. The transmission is the classic "knife through butter" as it is supposed to be. The car has been properly converted to 12 volts, hich is great for a car that is meant to be driven. This allows the starter to turn faster and unlike many 356s that are ticklish to start, his one just jumps to life. Part of that is due to the fresh rebuild as well, ut I have seen newly rebuilt engines that are tough to start. Miles on the newly rebuilt instruments show about 2900 miles since the rebuild.
Wheels are correct (chrome & paint) but there is not a build dateon them, o I can't tell how old they are. Tires are Vredsteins, n expensive and correct tire for the period. There is lots of tread, hey look new. The size on these is 185/70/15 and should be either 165/15 (original) or 185/65/15(one size up, ut close). The rideheight has been lowered in the front, nd again, hile many guys like this, tisn't stock. It is easy to adjust the ride height back up to stock. This also makes the front of the car ride abit harsher than stock, ut most wouldn't notice it.
EXTERIOR:
56 piece Seal & Rubber Restoration Kit fromSierra Madre (Part #: SMC.000.886). Every seal &gasket on body will be replaced shortly.
The window frames have been rechromed and lookgreat. This is important as it isexpensive to do.
The deco strips below the doors are new.
The windows roll up and down and work well.
The rear taillights and license plate lights arenew.
Bumper guards are in very good shape.
The muffler and bumper guard set up is stock, utwill need to add the two "muffler extensions that fit into the bumperguards to keep them clean.
Front bumper guards are either rechromed or new.
Antenna is from the correct original manufacturer but is a new model - with a bit smaller base than stock.
Alloy horn vents are new. Driver's side mirror is set on the fender instead of the door. (This was not uncommon)
Door handles are good, ront hood handle isoriginal and the chrome shows wear. (Collectors have a thing about keeping the originals, nd especially the original crests.)
INTERIOR:
I purchased a complete new interior from Autos International at a cost of $4,500, ncluding:
premium black leather seats x2,
front seats padding – upper & lower x2,
head rest set x2,
black leather rear seat straps x2,
complete carpet set - correct set of woolsquare weave carpets
square weave floor mats (front & rear),
headliner,
door panels
The carpet has been removed, nd a layer of modern sound deadening hasbeen carefully applied to all the flat panels of the interior. In some places, lack vinyl has been glued over the sound deadener to improve the appearance until the correct set of woolsquare weave carpets are installed shortly.
The dash top looks original and is very good. All the instruments have been fully rebuilt and look and work as new. The clock has been rebuilt as well. All switches are in good condition and work as designed. There was a rally instrument in the dash atone time to the right of the clock and the mounting holes are covered by a piece of Velcro, hich can be used to store the garage door opener.
The radio hole is covered with an OE blank out plate. There is a cleverly mounted swing down electronic radio under the dash that can be swung down on a bracket for use or pushed up under the dash to be hidden. Brand new speakers are included behind freshly-chromed OE speakergrilles and the sound is excellent. Thereis a hidden electronic radio on a swing down bracket. The fold-down electric radio works very well, and has a sound that makes period radios seem like toys. It folds up out of view when not in use.
The chrome on the front seat hinges is excellent. The back seats have seat belts for kids have been professionally installed. The back seat area has been carefully fitted with sound deadener prior to installation of the correct German square weave carpet set. Modern, -point inertia reel seat belts for the driver and passenger.
The steering wheel is an after-market wooden wheel of a smaller diameter than stock in very nice condition. These can be valuable. The chrome around the door frames and the rear seat pop-out windows has been freshly rechromed to an excellent standard. Both front windowsroll up and down easily.
FRONT COMPARTMENT:
The front compartment has been very nicely prepared, ith all surfaces painted to a concours standard.
The gas tank has the proper light gray paint, he correct OE sound deadening has been added to the gas tank and the surrounding panel, nd the OE body tags and markings are all in place.
The car has a spare tire, eather restraining strap, hydraulic jack, nd a comprehensive vintage tool kit.
The car has been professionally converted to 12 volts, hich allows for easy starting. The battery is a leak-proof Optima, ecurely mounted in the normal position.
The OE black plastic trunk liner is in place and in good condition.
