1968 Porsche 912 5 Gauge, 5 Speed

After a great deal of thought and reluctance, I have decided to sell a small portion of my car collection. I have had a great passion and love for cars since the 60's, and have spent most my life collecting them. The ambition and means isn't the problem, it's the indoor space. I have managed to fill a 6600sqft warehouse with my collection and several garages, but even with stacking cars I am out of space. I still have a few cars to obtain before they become too far out of reach, so I must do it now. Every car I have ever owned must have a pulse, heartbeat, soul and story or I would not want it. This car is no different.

The car I'm selling is my 1968 Porsche 912. This car has never been put up for sale and was offered to me from a family member of the original owner. After contacting the original owner "Ed”, it was almost a year before he let me see and buy the car. The car was parked in his garage in sunny California in 1978 with just 88,000 miles on it and did not see sunlight again till the day I bought it. As the car was being taken from its long sleep, this is the teary eyed story Ed told me about the car. It was the first part of 1968 and Ed was now on the fast track to success. He signed a nice contract working as a mathematical engineer, and his young wife had just passed the BAR exam and was ready to start her career in the legal field. They had just purchased a beautiful home in a new development by the golf course with a 2 car garage. With only one car they decided to look for a second car to fit their new lifestyle. They drove to the local Porsche dealership to see what they had to offer. When they opened the front door of the dealership, directly in front of them was this car. The young couple stopped dead in their tracks and looked at each other and said that's it! It was a burgundy red 1968 Porsche 912 with tan leather interior, 5 gauge package and the 901 5 speed transmission. Ed said it was love at first sight, just like his wife. The car was used mostly for romantic weekend trips up the coast and to do a little wine tasting. As the years passed Ed became a very sought after engineer working for the government and military in what was called the "gray area”. It was a high clearance position with information that was top secret. His wife would also become a very well established attorney spending most of her time in Washington DC working with most of the Presidents of the last 50 years. The successful couple became very busy chasing dreams, and the little car just sat alone and forgotten. When Ed handed me the keys he said... don't chase too many dreams, you might forget to enjoy life. Enjoy my youth, this is what the car is to me!

As the car was being loaded on the flatbed, I knew what I wanted to do with it. I wanted to keep as much soul in the car as I could. The car was taken to a very reputable Porsche shop and completely gone through. Any part of the motor, transmission, suspension, brake system and electrical that was needed was addressed. I wanted the car to drive like the day it was new, but I didn't want it to be full of aftermarket or upgraded parts. With the car up and running like a champ it was off to the body shop. The car was taken to a very well established body shop in Sherman Oaks. The car was completely disassembled and making sure not to damage all the original chrome and aluminum trip pieces. I wanted the car to be reassembled to show a slight aged patina to the car. The car was given a fresh coat of 6808 017 original burgundy red. The car sat for several months for the paint to cure before a light color sand and buff was given. The car was then re-assembled with fresh rubbers and given the final color sand, buff and polish. The car how had its original luster back. The last stop of this journey was to the upholstery shop. The interior was completely redone in full leather with the correct grain and carpet to keep the vintage original look. When the car came out of the upholstery shop it was treated to a wonderful detail to complete its resurrection. The car has only been driven approximately 75 miles since all of this was completed. The car has just been parked for the short period of time as part of my car collection. The beautiful part of the car is that you don't know if it's miraculously preserved or it's been restored. A lot of time was put into making the car this way.

This is a perfect car for a collector, weekend driver and occasional car show, or daily driver. I know what I have, but I am very reasonable on what I will be selling the car for. I have set my reserve at a very low price to make sure the car sells.

If you would like to see the car or have additional questions, you can reach me at 1-818-802-7374. I'm better on the phone then with emails and text messages. I'm that old dinosaur of a guy when it comes to modern technology.

Thanks and good luck.
