Description:
1973 Porsche 911 Euro Coupe (73 RS)
Through racing, I became good friends with the gangs at both Kelly-Moss Motorsports and Accumoto. Both based in Wisconsin, they have turned out some terrific and wild 911's in the past few years. If you are not familiar with them, look them up, they are artists.Like singer, these builders create artwork with their cars and they can command huge numbers. I was always inspired by the cars from these builders. Since I don't have that kind of money I had to build this car myself a little at a time over many years. I am very pleased with the results and I have enjoyed it a ton!Like the original RS the performance of the car is amazing! With 300hp at the skinny rear tires and pulling only 2300 pounds the acceleration is...impressive. The short shifter takes some practice to master, but so does the rest of the car and that is the point isn't it? This car is not about the "easy" button - its about driver skill, mechanical sympathy and enjoying a car that fills all your senses with air cooled wonderfulness every time you climb aboard. If you are a good driver you will be rewarded with instant response and excellent feel, the skinny original size rubber wrapped over correct FUCHS wheels are not as grippy as modern wide tires, but this grip level allows you to slide the car and approach your limits and car's limits without a ticket to the big house.I wanted it to look like a 73 RS and deliver that driving experience and I made choices during the build to support that vision. The car is fanatical light, no AC, no, heat (Although heat can be added easily, parts come with the car.) There is no radio but you can put one in if that sweet sound of the 3.6 engine ripping though the gears is not working for you. I even forgo sun visors but a new set goes with the car.The car is pure Porsche goodness without any filters.About the build: The car started as a Rust free, never hit 1979 Euro Coupe. Galvanized body, no sunroof, roll up windows. It was stripped to bare metal and backdated to the 1973 long nose look and RS style bodywork including steel front fenders. All of that was sprayed Viper Green and it looks fantastic. The black trim was changed to polished and the windscreen was replaced. Authentic RS graphics were added as well as the FUCHS wheels. Inside, the original interior was gutted and replaced with a restored dash pad, restored gauges with LED lighting and 10,000 rpm tach. Authentic RSR style seats with leather and houndstooth hold you tight in the turns. The rest of the interior is also new from headliner to the gray perlon carpet. All the rubber in the car is new. The engine is a fresh 3.6 twin plug 964 engine with PMO Throttle bodies and stand alone injection with coil on plug ignition. An RS America A/C delete motor plate further cleans up the engine bay. The gearbox is a fresh 915 with very close ratios supporting rapid acceleration. Both rear tires are kept hooked up by a Gaurd limited slip diff turning a 7/32 ring and pinion. The suspension uses Elephant racing spring plates and rear torsion bars. The shocks are your basic green Porsche shocks which I find ideal for this build. You could go crazy building a modern suspension but why lose the authentic feel of the car? The brakes are upgraded to Brembo calipers front and rear. It uses SC rotors on the rear and I as I remember Boxster rotors on the front. The brakes are power boosted, but I have driven it without the booster hooked up and I may like it better. Its easy to plug the vacuum source if you want to try it both ways. The brakes are fabulous. The weather turned to crap today but I will post a driving video as soon as it clears up! The car has only about 1500 miles on it since done, so it still very fresh. So that's it, my vision of what the "Perfect' air cooled outlaw should be. It may not match your vision and if you want to change something, I can probably do it for you before it leaves or you can take it in any direction that fits your vision..for that matter, I can build you a whole new car that works for you..but I gotta sell this guy first.Pull the trigger, this is a very special car and its a fraction of the cost of a genuine RS. I have sold several cars to Europe and beyond and I'm happy to help work out making it happen if you need shipping help. Bid to win!
