This has to be one of the highest quality body and chassis available. I have been wanting a coupe replica for some time now and did not want a fiberglass body bolted to a vw chassis with a VW title. The body is straight as an arrow. Gaps are perfect. Doors and steering column aremounted to stainless uprights as part of the chassis. Doors, hood and engine cover liners were bonded to there skins while still in the skin molds making them seamless and perfect. Notice the square center tunnel and no emergency brake handle like a VW kit car.
Body was very close to the original. We modified the fender corners to be round instead of square. Templates were made of a real 356. Also the rear torsion spring access plates were added. In nearly all replicas you will notice a flat dash. Not this one, radio plate is recessed and all switches and gauges are in there proper place. We have taken several measurements comparing this car to an original and they are the same. The only thing missing on the outside of the body are rain gutters. They can be added but my intention was to build an outlaw.
The body and chassis were set up originally for electric. I wanted Subaru power and A/C. The engine compartment has a vast amount of space for a fuel tank, condenser or radiator. Each of those could go in the front or rear of the car. Depending on how you finish it is up to you. Engine, transaxle, control arm mounts are tacked in place needing final welding and reinforcement. Engine and transaxle are centered and at the correct height all setup up an alignment rack for proper toe, and camber.
I love this car and have enjoyed working on it. My reasons for selling are health issues and have many cars that I have built and need to maintain. Finished you will have a 356 that can be daily driven, is faster, super dependable, better brakes, better handling but still retaining many of the original driving characteristics of a real 356 and a car you can personalize without devaluing it. What you wont have is a car that will rust away and any parts you have to replace won't cost an arm and a leg, maybe both legs. Real stuff is getting ridiculously expensive.
I am sure you will have several questions. Feel free to reply or call.eight one six 769 one66nineTim
