1986 Porsche 928

I am selling Hedwig, my 1986.5 Porsche 928 S with only 22,027 original documented miles and a clean history. the superior 32 valve 4.9 liter motor, this Meteor grey with ox blood interior 928 runs beautifully and is ready to be enjoyed with the turn of a key.

Optioned with the following packages (Porsche codes 158, 220, 319, 418, 490, 494, 533, 570) This includes a locking differential, changed step up fan, rear air conditioning, side protection moldings, and sound system upgrades.Original spare keys, and manuals are included. Plus a few cassette tapes for good measure.

I believe Hedwig to be the ideal driver's 928.

She was sold new on July 23rd1986 in Nebraska.

The previous owner purchased her as a gift from Carbine Motorcars in New Orleans on May 15th 2009.

She was kept outside, and consequently there is some cracking on the dashboard and rear seat tops, and some leather shrinkage.

That said, the owner converted the air conditioning and replaced the receiver dryer, as well as a new oil pressure sender in October 2017. New tires were installed in 2016 and any other needs were met and services performed.

I discovered Hedwig in January of 2018 and dispatched her toEuro Imports in Hammond, Louisiana. They set about doing all that would be needed to insure pleasurable and trouble free future motoring.

These items were replaced and the service performed at a cost of five thousand dollars. Hedwig is now feeling very strong and confident.

To coin a hackeneyed phrase, " I would not hesitate to drive across country”.

I have taken her on several drives both in the city and country, enthusiastically and mildly, and I can attest to her very civilized manners. She is as close to driving a new 928 mechanically as one can get. The steering and throttle response are spot on. There is no creaking or noise from the suspension, and when pushed she simply gobbles up the corners and looks for more road. The handling is superb, well balanced and confidence inspiring. I believe this to be the strongest suit of Hedwig.A true Grand Tourer, smooth and quiet, but tight and nimble. The motor is incredibly strong emitting a wonderful sound.

The brakes are very good, no pulling, binding or strange noises.

The transmissions shifts smoothly and quietly, grabbing a lower gear when needed without fuss or drama. The cockpit is extremely comfortable and quiet, and the driving position is just right and can be enjoyed for hours of motoring without feeling cramped, sore, or tired.

Hedwig is as nice outside as in. The overall condition of the car is marvelous especially considering she is now 32 years old.

She has a few blemishes as any car of this age would, but they are slight and do not take away from the overall appearance. I have photographed them as best I could. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged.

I do not believe anyone coming to see her would be disappointed, and driving her will impress even the most fickle Porschephile.

I am sad to say after finding this wonderful car and facilitating in bolstering her overall fitness I have come to realize that she longs for beautiful open roads and spirited driving that I myself cannot offer.

If you have been to New Orleans and indeed Louisiana, you will understand beautiful smooth roads are scarce and potholes and uninsured motorists are a plenty. It is for that reason I must bid ado to my friend Hedwig and let her go to someone who will drive her in a more suitable environment.

While the drive is flawless, I have discovered a few things that could be addressed to make Hedwig truly perfect. Her tailgate release motor is functioning, but not releasing from the inside controls. The volt- meter is sometimes jumpy and the fuel gauge pessimistically reads ¾ full when full and not 4/4. Interior lights work spasmodically. There is a squeak from the air conditioning fan when running at low speed, which dissipates when turned higher.

Upon removing the after market amplifier and subwoofer, the head unit is mute. I thought of putting in an original head unit, but will leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Amplifier and subwoofer are included if desired.

Lastly, the reverse light does not come on.

It appears Hedwig does not like looking back. On the positive side, all other lights function as they should, her eyes pop up when summoned, and all the gauges are functioning and reading properly.

Hedwig will be sold "As Is" and with no warranty. I have done my best to insure all potentially troubling issues would be resolved, but as all gear heads know buying a classic car is not the same as buying a new Toyota, things will need to be attended to as she is driven and enjoyed.
