Description:
1974 Porsche 911 Targa
Here is a 1974 Porsche 911 Targa project car. This is a euro car as the speedo reflects in kilometers. This 911 came from the factory inbright yellow with the black interior. The car has been in dry storage in Colorado since the late eighties. A clutch was put in around that time and the car was driving. It was tucked away inside of a shop and remained there until recently when the shop was being cleaned out. In my opinion, I would say it is about 90-95% complete. From the little that I know about it and from what I can tell, it is missing the rear bumper, the grillfor the rear deck lid, emblems, mirrors and undoubtedly, several other little bits and pieces. Make no mistake this car is in need of a complete front to back, top to bottom restoration if you want to take it back to its factory condition. The good news is there is a lot here for the price. The engine is the 2.7 liter Bosch MFI. After having it inspected I was told the engine is not the original but it was a Porsche factory replacement engine at some point. The serial number stamping on the engine looks to be: 6145369.
The transaxle is there and the axle half shafts are out. It would not roll after decades of storage and it was thoughtsomething was seized. It turns out it was the brake calipers that needed to be massaged to get it rolling again. This was after the axle half shafts were removed. They stayed out and are included with it.
The interior is in decent shape for a car that was sitting for so long. The seats are good as are the gauges, etc. The headliner is falling down on the Targa top and the carpet is pulled up in places. The door panels are loose as is the vinyl inside of the car. All of the glass is good and the windows roll up and down.
The body. There is some rust on the car. From what I could see the majority is along the front of the pan. I found two additional rust spots under the drivers side. Please see the included pics of these areas. The car looks to have been undercoated at some point. The floors feel solid and I could not find any soft spots on a cursory check. There are some areas around the door jambs that look to have surface rust under the paint. The paint is currently black but it too is shot. Cracking, fading, flaking off in spots, etc. Looks like there is filler in the drivers door where the mirror holes are located and it looks to have been wrinkled on the front passenger side slightly. There is evidence of a repair in that area. Factory spare tire remains in the car. This car was ordered with the rear wiper option which I was told is somewhat rare.
The wheels are the factory 15" Fuch wheels.
This is about all that I know about the vehicle. Again, this is a project vehiclefor either restoration or to possibly use as a race car or autocross project, or to be completed however you'd like. Regardless, I highly suggest you have it inspectedby a reputable auto inspection company of your choosing prior to placing a bid. This will help in determining in how the car and all associated costs will play into your plans with it. Like I've mentioned earlier, this is a project car. It does not run and has been sitting for decades. All of this needs to be considered before placing a bid.
I can make myself available (within reason) for you to inspect the car if needed. It is in storage, out of the elements.
I'd like to see the car go to someone who appreciates these and will get it back to a running, driving state. If you know these cars then you know what the parts alone are worth in today's market. There is a lot here and a lot to work with. The reserve is very reasonable but it is in place for a reason. Please don't ask what it is.
Payment: A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the auctions end date and time. That is to be done through PayPal. The remaining balance is due within 7 calendar days from the auctions date and time. Final payment can be made via bank wire transfer. I have an open, clear Colorado title for the car. That and any other associated documents will not be released until the valid, confirmed payment has been satisfied.
Shipping: Shipping costs, arrangements, and shipping company is the sole responsibility of the buyer. The buyer will need to make all of these arrangements themselves. I will assist on my end but the shipper will be the one doing all of the loading and securingof the vehicle. See additional shipping/storage requirements listed below in the additional checkout instructions.
I reserve the right to end this auction early and cancel all bids if the car becomes no longer available.
One more time; This is a 44 year old car that is a classic piece of Porsche history. It has been sitting for a long time and will need lots of attention. It is relatively complete for a vehicle of this vintage. Having said that again, ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid. I'll get you an answer which could be yes, no or I don't know. If you'd like to see it, let me know and I'll see what I can do to make it happen around my schedule.
This is a U.S. only auction.
Thanks for looking.
