Description:
1973 Porsche 914
This should be a fun auction! I don't always do auctions with a low starting price and no-reserve...but sometimes you just got to roll the dice and see where it lands.Ebay policy won't let me link the 100 other photos I have, so contact me if you're serious and I'll send you my photobucket link.
The 914 seems to have historically had the reputation as the red headed step child of the Porsche family, well if that was the case this is the crazy aunt of the bunch with her hair dyed purple. Now I've searched for hours online and no where can I find another example of a 1973 914, with special paint code 98 on the Kunstharzlack tag...check it, 98 isn't even listed in the paint codes p914.com...Crazy I know...it's like Barney the Dinosaur ordered himself a purple shoe! Now this car has been painted on the outside at some point, you can see in person and in pics it was a long time ago and not a good job, the original purple can be seen from underneath and every where you look in this at is purple, more purple, and a splash of purple...is this a 1 of 1 car??? Maybe...what would that make it the best of the worst of the Porsche's..The rarest 73 914 1.7 Liter???
Now the car has last tags of 1995, so it's been sitting a while. One of the fuel injectors was off when I picked it up so I put it back in it's place, we hooked a battery to it and to my surprise the door buzzer actually still worked, turned the key and the motor DOES turn over (I did not try to get it to actually fire and run, just wanted to make sure it wasn't frozen like last nights dinner) nothing sounded broken, didn't sound like my son playing a pots and pan drum solo..so I'm guessing it's good..of course since it's been sitting so long I would recommend the usually steps of waking up a car that has been sitting for so long, if you don't know what they are...I hope your mechanic does. I'm not a 914 expert by any means, but like everyone else online I have a friend named Google and he answers most of my questions when I talk to him nicely.
The interior of the car is in pretty good shape, you can see in the pictures that it has two front seats, some carpet, door panels, glass, a steering wheel, gauges, dash pad with a couple cracks, gas pedal, brake pedal, clutch pedal, and all things that you'd usually find inside of a 73 914.
The car needs to be repainted, don't let my high quality IPhone pics fool you the paint is in pretty poor shape on the outside, I mean if you want a patina style purple Porsche that you can drive to the market store and not worry about someone pushing their shopping cart into then this is the cat's pajama's..otherwise a respray in the correct factory applied color would probably benefit you and your passenger.
Let's talk about the patina..err rust as I would call it. The battery holder is more like a piece of the titanic after it's been underwater for a 100 years than a piece of a Porsche that has been above ground for 50 so it'll need replacement or some bush fix engineering if you're that sort, the trunk (rear) has had some standing water in it at some point and you can see in the pictures that it has long since faded the paint, causes some pitting, there is a rust hole here that I've found and tried to clearly display in the pictures..I have nothing to hide with this car...the floors look fine from what I can see from underneath, the rockers look good, the spare tire area seems just dandy, I'm sure there is something somewhere that I haven't noticed, but I've tried to notice it all and explain it as best as I can.
Q&A - This is where I'll pre-answer some of the questions I know I'm going to get.
1. Does it Run? No, I have hooked a battery to it and the motor turns over, but I have not attempted to get it running.2. When was the last time it ran? Last tags show 1995, so probably somewhere around then unless the previous owner just liked to pay the DMV money for no reason.3. Can I drive it home? If you have a good imagination and can sit in it, make noises, and pretend you are driving it then yes..however I need full payment before that happens.4. Are you sure it's purple...Yes, it looks like the color matched Barney the dinosaur to it.5. Can I come see it? Sure, I'll set up a viewing on 1 day for 1 hour where everyone can come touch it, hug it, talk about how wonderful it is.6. How much to end the auction early? What fun would that be???7. How much to ship it to...XYZ- I'm not a car shipper, car is located in Auburn, CA 95603 call a shipping company.8. Will you ship international- I'll sell the car to the highest bidder, you can live Count Dracula's castle for all I care as long as you pay me I'll do what I can to help you out..the closest port to me is Oakland, CA..I have used West Coast Shipping many times and they always treat me and my clients very well...it cost $125.00 to get a car from my door to them..9. Is the car in your name, YES..all fee's are paid and the title processing has already been started with the California Department of motor vehicles, I should have the title shortly before or shortly after this auction ends.10. Will you take any trades? I'd like a Gullwing Mercedes...
The car is being sold as is, where is, as a project needing full mechanical restoration.
