In 1978. a customer of Holbert’s Porsche outside of Philadelphia wanted a 930 Turbo Targa. Porsche did not build this car at the time (not until 1987 would Porsche build this car) so Holbert’s Porsche ordered in a 1978 Talbot yellow 911 SC Targa and Al Holbert’s race shop built this car to factory 930 specs for their customer. a 3. 2L Short Stroke flat 6 equipped with 98mm Pistons and Cylinders. ARP Rod Bolts. Ported and Polished Heads. Ported intake blocks. Ported intake manifold. Competition valve springs. new valves. Elgin Cams. Intercooler. B&B Headers. Hybrid KKK Turbo. Rebuilt Wastegate. Kennedy Stage 2 Clutch. Stainless tailpipe. LSD 915 Transmission. big brakes. Bilstein coil over suspension. Front and Rear Swaybars. Bump steer. Brand New Fifteen 52 Outlaw 001 Wheels with brand new Hoosier R6 tires in addition to other things that make it much more updated than the stock 930. A little more history… Since Al Holbert was a Porsche factory racecar driver. he worked very closely with the race dept. Porsche was aware of this car being built and in 1978 Porsche also built two ’78 930 Turbo Targa’s to test the concept of a turbo cars ability to handle the power without roof frame support. This is an extremely neat car in the history of Porsche Targa’s and lent its design ideas to Porsche direct to build the factory car later on.
