Description:

1993 Porsche 968

For your consideration: A rare, original Porsche 968 tiptronic cabriolet. According to the 968 registry, there were 354 968 cabriolets produced during 4 years of production (1992-1995). Base price on a cab "tip" was $55,000. 442 guards red cars were made in total. Since a little over half of these cars were coupes, that equates to a conservative estimate of around 50 drop top "red cab tips" for 1993. Quite a rare car indeed! (Incidentally, the 968 registry is a wonderful resource for these cars, and their relevant facts, and model specific info can be found at the 968 register website)
While covering only around 5k miles per year, this specific example has been used and enjoyed as intended throughout its life, and not left to collect dust in the garage. Simply put, it's a great driver - not a show pony. Well maintained, and freshly serviced, this 968 has recently received new belts, brakes and battery.
While it could use a few cosmetic improvementsto be excellent, it is nonetheless currently in nice, original shape, runs & drives great, and needs nothing to be enjoyed at once.To really stand the car up cosmetically, the new owner may choose to put a new top on (unless you only plan to enjoy the car with the top down, and tucked under the included boot!). There are a couple of tears - which are currently patched, and not leaking, but still present. Repacement tops can be had, here on eBay, for around $400. Most importantly, the top's motors all function normally, and the roof goes up and down, with one push of a button. Also, as seen in the pictures, the driver's seat could stand to be replaced/recovered as well. Especially the bottom left panel. As this was a standard and common seat, found also on the 993s and other Porsche models of the period, used replacements are readily available, and may prove more cost efficient than even recovering the current seats. Finally, and typically, there is a small amount of warping of the dash, withsmall crackingaround the vents. The original exterior paint still shines quite nicely, however there are some occasional minor dings and stone chips, to be expected in a 24 year old Porsche.
As with many Porsches from the '60s-90s, 968 values have recently been on a steep, upward curve. In fact, the stratospheric rise in air cooled 911 & 356 cars, seems to have slowed (at least temporarily), and given way to a new found interest in the "water cooler" cars of late. Prices for good 928s are up 30-40% or more in the last year or so, and and these 968s seem poised to follow suit. Excellent cars are now valued in the $30-45K range by Hagerty, and appear to only be heading up - with the price hike showing a 27% increase, in the last year (see the Hagerty valuation tool - another great resource). Good to excellent cars are valued at $17-29K. This is a good car, that could be made great, for a reasonable amount of money. My "Buy it Now" price has left the next owner plenty of room to keep their head above water, from a valuation standpoint, regardless of what level they decide to take the car to.
Leave it alone, drop the top on a sunny day, and enjoy it as is, or take the time to do the few small things that would really make this a next level car. As new owner of this beautiful and rare piece, that enjoyable decision will be up to you!
