A brief history of the 1961& 1962

KARMANN NOTCHBACK HARDTOP

In 1961 Porsche contracted with Karmann Body Werks to produce a new body style for the 356. The " Notchback "Hardtop was designed to increase sales by offering two fixed roof styles. This new stylealso served two objectives. First: to offer anew thirdbody style.Second: to have a second company to produce bodies for the 356 incase of supply disruptions with their current supplier "Reutter body Werks". The new Karmann design accomplished this bybuildingaCabriolet body and welding (Soldering)a "Notchback" Hardtop to the body. This new body stylethen would secure a constant supply of "Notchback" Hardtopand Cabriolet bodies in case of any disruptions with their current supplier.

During the1961 model year Karmann built1048 carsof this body style.It is estimated that fewer than 100-150 of theseremain today in either Notchback or the top removed Cabriolet.

Description

The welded (soldered)top wasremoved andthe car wasconverted back to a Cabriolet. This was doneusing factory parts. This is a rust free car with anexcellent 1600s engine, 4 speed transmission,original floors, battery box, jack points and longitudnals.It also hasexcellent bodypanels, doors, Glass,front and rear lidsand gaps, gooddriver quality paint, good chrome and trimand no body damage.Itis equipped with a 1600 super engine, Webber carbs, Nardi steering wheel, Red leather interior, factory jackand a factory cabriolet top. Pictures do not do this car justice.Being that Georgia does not issue titles for cars 25 yrs or oldernonecan be provided. This automobile will be sold with a NotarizedBill of Sale. Please ask any questions before bidding.
