1967 Pontiac Firebird Stored for 37 years with All New never used Engine PartsSee Photos.Story: This 1967 Pontiac Firebird with a Ram Air Hood, and 6.6 Liter Engine has been stored for 37 years, since 1986. In only drove it for a few months before the engine kept flooding. My mechanic friend and I tore into it to find that the cam lobes were absolutely flat. We blueprinted this engine to be very balanced for daily driving, but it rip when it needs to.
I took the engine apart and had it vatted and bored out .030 over and machined the Crank and and Heads. I then purchased everything you need to rebuild and create a high-performance engine: pushrods, high-performance cam, hydraulic lifters, bearings, connecting rods, domed pistons, rings, gaskets, high-performance intake manifold, and accessories like high-performance flex fan, low profile high-capacity oil pan, low profile air cleaner.
Long story short, life intervened and assembly was interrupted and I had to put her in storage.
My mother (RIP) had been paying for storage since 1989, when I went back to school. On her death bed, in 2003, she informed me that she had kept up with storage fees and it was still there. I thought it had lapsed years before.
I got it out of storage and began a budget for restoration, only to be laid off right when I had priced out and budgeted for the entire project and had started to prepare for bead blasting, and engine assembly.
Back in storage she went while I worked in California. Now I am back in Texas, and needing to downsize.
She comes with a copy of the original window sticker and original order form from the Pontiac Historical Society.
Original title. I was the 3rd owner of this vehicle, but it was never registered, under the second owner, nor me due to it being stored.
I have about $5,000 or $6,000 invested in engine parts alone which has never been turned over.
It will make an excellent project car.
Some assembly required.
Body: The body is in great shape. It has not been exposed to the elements since 1986.
The front end (quarter panels and Ram Air hood) is disassembled, as I was about to have it bead blasted to start the project. I have all bolts except the 2 main bolts to the carriage had to be cut off. Original radiator, fan cowl, hoses, etc.
Transmission: Pontiac 2-Speed Power Glide Transmission $600 Great transmission. Shifts into 2nd gear at 55-65 off the line.
Engine: Pontiac 400ci 6.6 liter engine from a 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM (I looked up the block number and it is Confirmed)
I blue printed this engine and it has never been turned over/fired up. However, it WILL need to be vatted and re-assembled, just due to time. Perhaps a new set of piston rings.
I bought everything for the engine from JEGS, and listed their value if purchased today.
