1966 Pontiac GTO, 4 speed, A/C
1966 Pontiac GTO
It’s come time for me to sell my very nicely-optioned PHS-documented 1966 Pontiac GTO, original California Black Plate car. It came from the factory with a 389, 4-bbl, 4 speed, A/C and Safe-T Track (Posi) rear end (see PHS doc pics). I have spent the last couple years personally doing a “driver-quality” restoration with respect to the factory options with some upgrades.
-<1000 miles on a completely rebuilt 1966 389 “WT” period-correct engine block mated to “093” heads. Correct timing cover and intake manifold. Heads were surfaced, new valves, hardened seats. Factory forged rods, factory crank, new rings/pistons and factory-spec’d cam/lifters. Correct cooling fan and shroud. Engine assembled with the correct baffling plates in the oil pan as well as above each rocker arm assembly. Modifications include Edelbrock 4bbl, Holley electric fuel pump, Pertronix ignition and coil.
-New Aluminum radiator
-New battery
-4 speed trans has new seals and bearings, however, still leaks a little oil. New clutch and resurfaced flywheel. Trans is dated 1969. Driveshaft balanced. Hurst shifter could maybe use a little more adjustment but is shifts just fine.
-Factory A/C system removed and replaced with a new Vintage air system using all the correct dash controls. A/C blows nice and cold.
-Power brakes with front discs
-Power steering
-Newer interior. Seats, carpet, headliner, dash cover (padded vinyl, NOT a plastic dash cap), door panels. New windshield.
-Rally gauges all work (tach bounces a bit but steady at idle…see pic). Oil pressure, temp, fuel and speedometer all working order.
-Wiper Motor not installed. Internal arm mechanism should be there.
-Body is exceptionally straight. No dents or dings. Was painted a few years ago in single-stage black, cut and buffed. This is NOT a show quality paint job so there are some imperfections.
-Rust-free car. Rockers super solid! There was some rust in the passenger floor pan due to a leaking heater core. The floor pan section was replaced and fully-welded in place. See pic.
-Car rewired with American Autowire
-Edelbrock 4-link setup with adjustable upper arms
-Aftermarket stereo but designed to fit hole in dash. No dash was cut. 2 speakers sit atop the package tray behind rear seat.
-New BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s on Cragar wheels.
-1” lowering springs in front
-Dual Exhaust with flowmaster mufflers
-Prior to my owning the car, PO replaced the lower driver quarter panel. The panel replacement was fully welded in and the only evidence is the seem only seen from inside the trunk. I also wanted to point out that there is also a small crack in the passenger side grill (see pic)
GTO is titled (California) and insured in my name
Overall, this car is very beautiful driver-quality restoration. I know this car inside and out very well so if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Happy Bidding!
