1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 4 Speed Manual
Vehicle DetailsRelisting due to non-paying buyer!!!! Hello! I am helping my uncle sell his 1968 Pontiac Firebird. He wasn't going to sell it but he started the new year with a busted boiler. He is trying to raise extra money so he can get his boiler replaced. Oh well, life happens. He has owned the Firebird since 2010. When he bought the car it was running and driving but was in need of some repairs. The odometer shows approx. 43,000 miles. He claims that it is the true mileage to the car. He bought it from the original owner who lived in South Carolina. My uncle lives in Pennsylvania so the car has a clean PA title. My uncle drove it around for about 5 years when he decided to start restoring it. He pulled it into his garage and pulled the 350 engine out and dropped in a rebuilt 400. The 400 engine came out of a '68 Firebird donor car. The letter code stamped on the head on the front of the engine is YW. He added a couple of extras to the engine such as Heddman headers, brand new Edelbrock manifold, New Edelbrock carburetor and Moroso valve covers. He also replaced the clutch driven engine fan with an electric one. The Firebird originally came with an automatic transmission but my uncle decided to swap in a Muncie 4 speed manual tranny. The transmission was checked out by a local transmission shop and the gear oil was changed. When he installed the Muncie 4 speed he also installed a resurfaced used GM flywheel, new clutch and pressure plate. He also installed a new Hurst close ratio shifter. The shift linkage and clutch pedal are all hooked up and work as they should. My uncle also started to install a new "Painless" wiring harness from front to back. In 2019 my uncle suffered a sever stroke and the Firebird build was put on hold. It took about 2 years for my uncle to recover from his stroke but he is 100% better now. He wanted to start working on the Firebird again but other health problems came up. The Firebird has been sitting in his garage since 2019 untouched until this past September when he asked me to help him fire up the car. We pulled it out of the garage and it took 2 or 3 tries and some shots of starting fluid and fired right up! When my uncle bought the Firebird it came with the original Pontiac Rally wheels. He decided to swap those wheels out and installed Mickey Thompson aluminum slots and the rear BF Goodrich tires are brand new. He bought them off a neighbor that had them on his '69 Camaro. The front tires are ok but will need to be replaced in the future. My uncle does have the 4th front wheel. He was in the process of getting new tires installed on the front wheels before he got ill again. The spare tire that is pictured will be included in the sale. The interior is in "OK" shape. The dash pad amazingly has no cracks. The front passenger seat and rear seat are in great shape. The drivers seat will need to be reupholstered. The original chrome rear view mirror is present and so are the original rear seat belts. I don't know about the front seat belts. I have to ask my uncle. The door panels and rear panels are present and in good shape. The headliner is present but the rear part of it has holes. It's up to the new owner if they want to replace it. The carpet is present but it's the wrong color. My uncle was going to install a black carpet. That was the original color of the interior. This Firebird was ordered from the factory with the custom option Strato bucket Seats for an additional cost. The original 3 spoke steering wheel is present along with the original horn button. The original exterior color was Alpine Blue with a Black Cordova vinyl top. You can see some traces of the original color on the back of the trunk lid and door jams. The Firebird also has the 160 mph speedometer. The gauge cluster is out in the pictures but will be reinstalled before the car is sold. It was taken out when my uncle was working on the wiring. The undercarriage of the car is solid along with the trunk pan, frame rails and rear shock mounts. The front and rear floors do have some small holes. Nothing crazy. They can be patched or replaced. There are still traces of the original splatter paint from the factory by the rear shock mounts. The trunk does have surface rust and very few rust holes that aren't bigger than a dime. Not even that big. It does have it's normal surface rust for a car that's over 50 years old. There is a little rust on the passenger side rear quarter right behind the rear wheel. There is also a little rust on the right front fender right behind the wheel but nothing crazy. There is absolutely no bond on this Firebird but will need a paint job. The doors open and close with ease with no sagging. The rocker panels are very solid. The chrome on the front and rear bumpers is nice and shiny. They could use a good polish. The Firebird still has some of it's original T3 headlights. My uncle has the 2 that are missing. The brakes will need to be gone through. The Firebird has drum brakes front and rear. The emergency brake works but that's about it. All locks work on the car and I have 3 keys for the Firebird. All glass is original and chip and crack free. This is a non-A/C car from the factory. This Firebird doesn't need much to get it back on the road with the exception of the wiring and brakes. The Painless harness is one of the best and all the wires are labeled from the factory. My uncle has priced the car accordingly cause he's in a jam with his boiler. I would buy it but I have too many cars already. I can assist with transportation but at new buyers expense. The car is being sold in "AS-IS" condition. I reserve the right to end this ad early because the car is being advertised locally also. If you need more information or more pictures please feel free to call or text me at 516 398 120 four. Low ballers and scammers take a hike. I've heard it all before.
