1968 Pontiac GTO HO 400 with Automatic
1968 Pontiac GTO
Vehicle DetailsThough I've only put a little over 500 miles on it and has been garage kept since I bought it in 2011, on a bimonthly average I do start her up and pull her out of the garage to run a bit, at a minimum.I purchased a set of four GTO 15" rally wheels and had new rubber put on them but only have these on the rear since this larger set rubs a little in the front. The fronts are 14" rally rims with old rubber and there are two matching rally spares, note all have center caps and stainless steels trim rings. The rears are 15" rims with new rubber and there are two matching rally spares, note all have center caps. There are two sets of GTO jacks. The interior is all original and is not bad consideringthe age. Though not installed, I had purchased most of the parts to redo the interior and are included. Additionally,a new uninstalled GTO judge style steering gear is included.Note that the heater core recently sprang a leak, so it was bypassed. The air conditioner system parts that are not on the car are included, including the compressor, the ac radiator and duct work. The power windows and hide-away headlights work great.Starts right up and sounds serious with it's glass-packs. Dual exhaust system very rusty with pipe repairs passed the mufflers.Includes a stack of GTO books and manuals, and a car cover. There are a number of oil leaks under the car that have not been addressed other than keeping them topped off. Two large oil trays included. The following is the description that was used in the February 2011 Bay listing when I purchased this ‘68 GTO:This is in the original California black plate car. I have one of the plates.Factory options: 400 HO, Turbo 400 trans, power windows, power brakes, power steering, power antenna, power trunk release, AC, hideaway headlights. This was a factory column shift power bench seat car. (now has correct bucket seats.) The car was built in Pontiac Michigan shipped to Willetts California and sold at Willetts Motor Company.I have PHS (official Pontiac Historical Society) docs.ENGINE:1971 400 Pontiac Catalina800 CFMQ jet modified for engine by Sean Murphy induction with electric choke.Bored 40 over.New piston field power and rings.Comp camClevite rod and main bearings STD.New lifters.High-pressure oil pump.Pontiac 6x heads, with 3 angle valve job, and new valve springs to match cam shaft.Double roller timing chain gears.Transmission: rebuilt 400 with a shift kitSuspension:New upper and lower ball joints.New control arm bushings.New coil springs front and rear.New gas shocks front and rear.New rotors and pads.New inner and outer wheel bearings.New engine mounts.New rear wheel cylinders.New rear shoes.New brake hardware.New repro rocker moldings.New repro fender emblems.New repro headlight actuators.New repro headlight bushing kit.New repro headlight switch.New repro beauty rings.New repro center caps. All four wheel well molding from rear rocker moldings are original to the car.
