Description:

1979 Pontiac Firebird Esprit

1979 Pontiac Firebird Project Car.

This car started life as a Pontiac Firebird Esprit, possibly a Yellowbird based on some paint that can be seen under the current paint job. It was well used and in the late 1990s somebody bought it, filled in a lot of the rust with bondo, painted it a very interesting shadow flames paint scheme, but never finished it. I bought it in 2000 as a potential frame-up restoration project car and have had it stored since then. The last time it ran was approximately 2002 and at that time it ran fine.
Buyer will need to pick up and haul. Vehicle has a very low clearance and will need to be winched onto a trailer or transport. Seller will not assist with loading or transport of the vehicle. I will entertain all reasonable offers. It will be unlikely I can provide any other photos of the vehicle before the end of the auction.

From the front to the back:- Front bumper has a crack in the corner of it.- Front fenders both have rust in the upper inside portion that is bubbling out through the paint.
- Tires all need to be replaced.
- Wheels are all in great shape, they are a very interesting checkerboard pattern originally sold on 1980s Monte Carlos.
- Hood is in great shape. Hood hinges are in great shape. Issues with hood release cable not releasing correctly.
- Motor turned over and had good compression when last ran. I was told it is a 400ci V8 but I have never been able to confirm that. No leaks from radiator, oil pan, power steering as of 2002.
- Brakes were soft when last ran.
- No rust around door hinges or A pillar. Doors swing and latch fine. Rust on rocker panel and floor pan.- Windows all intact, rust around the windows was painted over. No chrome window trim. Roll-up windows both worked fine.- Interior door panels need to be replaced.
- Doors have spots where a magnet won't adhere. Has had bondo work done.
- Steering wheel has started disintegrating and will need to be replaced.
- Dash and console are in great shape, still have most of their color and limited cracking. Gauges worked except for tachometer. A/C was installed but never worked.
- Automatic transmission shifted great in 2002 with no leaks.
- Upholstery is all intact, doesn't smell bad but has surface mildew. No problems with mechanical functioning of either seat.
- Rear lights are faded.- Quarter panels have rust above both wheels bubbling through the paint.
- Trunk lid and spoiler are in great shape. Trunk lock was punched out, can open easily with flathead screwdriver.
