1968 Pontiac GTO --

Here's a classic muscle car that's sure to turn heads. This 1968 Pontiac GTO represents the model at a great time - at the debut of its second generation, when its manufacturer added some well-chosen aesthetic changes that built upon the GTO's already exalted status on the boulevard. A muscle car version of a tuxedo, it wears an outstanding black coat with a white interior and is powered by a numbers matching 400 V8. This is one impressive GOAT.... Pontiac had already enjoyed strong success with the GTO since it debuted in 1964 and when the time came to make some updates the very year this '68 came out, the company proved itself adept at changing with the times, equipping its prized model with a much more curvaceous shape, as well as a semi-fastback rear roofline. The sinister black shade this GTO wears is a definite head turner. It's about as deep and dark a rendering of the color as you're likely to come across and has a nice shine, and even though it's not perfect, it's very difficult to find any imperfections in this finish. The split front grille became a Pontiac trademark over the years and when you follow this one up to the contour dividing the hood, you'll see a little more evidence of the manufacturer's handiwork: the distinctive double scoop, as well as a hood mounted tachometer ... a very rare option. The collection of brightwork on this GOAT looks great: the bumpers shine bright, the rocker panel trim and wheel arch moldings are straight and clean, and all the badging is right where it's supposed to be. And adding just a touch of sophistication to this street brawler is the vinyl top, a newer piece in fantastic condition. The parchment vinyl interior retains its original configuration and is a great example of late '60s automotive styling. It's more than road-ready inside, as it's in excellent condition through-and-through. The split-bench seat up front and full bench seat in back look fresh and show almost no wear across their surfaces, remaining well-padded and comfortable. As a '68, this GTO may have a shortened wheelbase relative to its predecessors, but there's still a lot of room inside here, so you'll get nothing but contented smiles from your backseat passengers. The dash area sits nice and level, with all of its original factory gauges still intact surrounded by wood applique and a black, solid dash pad above. The gauge lenses could stand a minor refurbishing, but the gauges themselves are augmented by an auxiliary set mounted under the dash. The 3-spoke steering wheel could easily be the original unit, as could the AM radio in the factory slot, and the factory A/C system has been upgraded to run R134a refrigerant. Out back the trunk is very spacious, is covered with a carpeted mat, and contains a full size spare just in case. The engine compartment is tidy and well-detailed, with neatly routed wiring and fresh-looking hoses and a correct snorkeled air cleaner and chrome valve covers. The turquoise, numbers matching YS code 400 cubic inch V8 is at its center and wears a 4-barrel Edelbrock carb on top of an Edelbrock intake manifold and is running strong, sending a nice deep note out of its Super Turbo dual exhaust system. The engine pairs with a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that's known for its solid durability and is shifting with precision while spinning the 10-bolt rear end out back. Power steering makes driving a breeze, and the entire undercarriage is very clean and presentable, suggesting a lifetime of easy living. This very coveted classic cruises on a set of 14" stock Pontiac Motor Division wheels wearing BF Goodrich red-line radials, finishing off the iconic look. Pontiac created an enduring classic with the GTO and this 1968 Pontiac GTO captures all that magic in its second generation splendor. Call today!
