Description:
1968 Pontiac Firebird 400
Introducing my dream car, the most beautiful and reliable 1968 firebird I've ever encountered. It's fast and rock solid from the engine to the suspension. With a 2002 Corvette LS1 engine & 6 speed transmission, cool running dual fan radiator, and fuel injection, it starts right up, it's a pleasure to drive, and won't leave you on the side of the road. It's loaded with the coldest blowing AC of any car I've ever driven, functional heater and defroster, a bitchin' sound system with retrosound head unit, bluetooth and microphone for phone calls, an amp in the trunk, and kick panel speakers in addition to the rear shelf, spotless red interior, a custom hand controlled E-brake, a custom form-fitted wooden hand grip shifter, gleaming chrome side pipes, it roars like a beast, and runs like a bat out of hell. With its Hotchkiss suspension and sway bars it handles the curves like an original never could, it's nice and tight over speed bumps, and a sexy low to the ground stance, without having to worry about bottoming out. It's got 17 inch American racing wheels on all four. Power disc brakes in the front. Safe three point shoulder harness seatbelts for driver and passenger. Custom 1927 Klaxon horn out of an old Ford. This car is clean inside out from the engine bay to the trunk, and even underneath. Since the engine swap she's only had about 6,000 miles. Engine swap was done in 2017, with 3000 miles on the rebuilt engine at the time of the swap, 6,000 since then, so under 10k miles on engine. AC and suspension done in 2018.This car is perfect in every way save a few small flaws:a dime sized paint chip and a couple bb sized ones on the roof from a photo shoot and an eight inch square tear in the carpet where the shifter was moved back from when I swapped the engine and trans. The speedometer is not hooked up to anything because the 1968 speedometer cable is not compatible with the computerized 2002 engine, but the speedometer gauge itself is intact and would work if properly connected. If you would like a useable speedo, you can get a digital one that works with the engine or a GPS based version that will fit in the original bezel. Gas gauge, temp gauge, oil pressure, battery gauge, and hood tachometer are all fully functional and light up. Trunk is carpeted and clean.
California car, was bought by me out of a field where it had sat for a decade. My vision as a wide eyed 17 year old was to bring a neglected vintage car back to life and turn it into my dream car. I bought the car in 2005 and saved every spare dime for the next decade for its piece by piece restoration. Starting with top to bottom body work, no expense was spared. With over $80k put in, and ten years of work, this car was built with love and it shows. The car was media blasted, painted, and the undercarriage powder coated in 2012, as you'll notice, with a seven year old paint job, there are a couple little nicks here and there, the worst being the aforementioned paint chip on the passenger side roof (pictured). Other than that she's totally clean inside, outside, in the engine, and underneath. I have 90% of receipts, including the engine swap which was $15,600 alone. $7,000 was spent on suspension and AC. I originally had a carburated old Pontiac engine and M20 4speed, and drove this car while in progress on the restoration, but swapped it out for the much more reliable, higher revving, faster LS1 and 6 speed.
I have photos from the restoration as well, just need to dig them up, currently looking for them. Why am I selling this car? I have another sports car and want to get an early 60's Lincoln convertible. The last photo is of the hood tach lit up at night (sorry for the potato quality of the photo).
You will love this firebird whether as a weekend cruiser or a daily driver. Why is this car practical as a daily driver? Because it fires right up, has every modern comfort (except air bags and anti-lock brakes), and it gets around 25mpg with its 2002 LS1. It's fast off the line with a POSI rear end, perfect for getting donuts or doing them. This car was built with love and attention to detail and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have all these years. In its unique color combo and excellent condition, this car is a show stopper, everyone stares and always wants to know what year it is or if they can use it in photoshoots. I've rented it out to shows and movies before and made a little of my 'investment' back.
Let me know what questions you have and I'll be happy to answer them. The car is in the Hollywood hills area of Los Angeles, if you're local and want to take a look or a test drive. The video below is a private link of the car driving on Sunset.
