1968 Pontiac GTO
Whoa!!So this is sunlight, huh? Man, I gotta tell ya, I've been shut away for going on 25 years now! I mean, I have been let out for good behavior every now and again but I haven't had a legitimate drive since my 1600 mile round trip to Kansas and back in '97!!
So here's my story...I was born in October of '67 in Fremont California, the swingin' 60's in NorCal!! Hell yeah! Oh wait, yeah...I was loaded on a truck and shipped to Pocatello, Idaho to be sold at Paul's Pontiac. Wahoo.
Well anyway, I had a couple different owners between '68 and '84-85. Cut me some slack, it was the 60's, 70's and 80's. Show me anyone that remembers everything from that time and we can both lie. I do know that my first 2 owners were not super nice to me and I wound up with a different engine and some cigarette burns in my seats and console. Ah, the 70's...and disco...enough of that.
In the mid 80's, a cute little girl named Connie bought me and whipped me back into shape!! Maroon paint and a big ole 428 out of a '69 Grand Prix...and baby seats, sheesh. Connie's neighbor was a real doe head and backed into my right side. She got me all fixed again but the guy that painted me, well, let's say he isn't doing make up in Hollywood. After that, sweet Connie said she needed a bigger car to fit another car seat. And that was fine because, frankly, the baby puke was killing me.
Connie put me up for sale at the corner of her husbands repair shop business. My current owner, Chris, saw me when he was sixteen and was dead set on buying me but he had no money. However, one sunny June day in 1991, Chris's dad surprised him with me and his first loan payments! This was the best thing ever. We went everywhere together and he really loved me but he learned most of his mechanic-ing skills at my expense. Let see, I've had two engines, one transmission and one rear differential. My transmission is my original, just freshened up a little, my engine is a 400 out of a 1968...you guessed it, Grand Prix. (Total donor cars anyway). Chris spent almost 4000 dollars rebuilding it so it looked like factory! My rear differential is out of a 1966 Chevelle and has 3.23 gears for these wide open Idaho highways. I ain't no numbers matching beauty queen but I have seen a thing or too and like to be driven. I have a sweet dual gate Hurst shifter from the factory and my transmission shifts pretty good...squeaks the tires when I'm feeling rambunctious. It leaks a little bit but hey, I'm a GTO, gas, tires and oil, right?
My interior is pretty descent for being original except the headliner, it's been replaced. My gauges are all mounted in factory holes so no drilling! My brakes could use some work but nothing a weekend wouldn't take care of...I mean, we do need to get to know each other before we go on a date night. My body and paint need some work as well but I have been stored inside FOREVER ('94) so it's not super terrible.
Well, that's about it. I will miss Chris and his family but back in 1994 when his son was born and I took him home from the hospital, I knew my days were numbered for having any fun. And honestly, I just couldn't do the baby puke again...ugh. The boy was the last one to drive me around and thank god, he did not throw up in me.
Throw in a bid and let's ride around together! If you'd like anymore of my story, message Chris as I am a '68 GTO and smart phones escape me, don't need 'em. Can't type anyway and the dog looks like she's tired of typing.
What?? They're legalizing pot everywhere?? Yeah!! The 60's all over baby!! It's a good time to come back out to play!!!
P.S. The car comes with the old 428 long block. It's buildable and a monster. Seriously, it scares me. Woof.
P.S.S. Chris will deliver in an enclosed car trailer up to 1,000 miles from Lava Hot Springs Idaho for an additional 450.00. Hand delivered, like my treats. Seriously, I'm done now, I need to pee. Woof woof.
