Sometimes the story of a car is equal to the value of the car and the way its told means everything. Pontiac certainly was not the first automobilemanufacturer to drop a big engine into a mid size car, however, its the way they marketed the GTO that made it what it is today and what it was back then. The marketing was so ingenious that it instilled a feeling of need and speed not only in young Americans but in the Detroit Auto Manufacturers as well. The marketing behind the GTO literally started the muscle car era and ever since its debut in 1964, the GTO has made its mark literally at every traffic light and 1/4 mile race track across America and competed with cars like the 442, Chevelle SS and Plymouth Sport Fury, but by the late 60's, the GTO was a staple in the muscle car craze and competed with EVERY muscle car that dare challenged it.
That's why the GTO is the most sought after muscle car for collectors today. Thanks to Pontiac for the way the car was introduced and debuted in 1964 it will always be remembered as one of the best muscle cars ever produced. This 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible listed here today has everything you're looking for in a muscle car, yet a few things it doesn't have, makes it an extremely rare find. Not that its a big deal, but this GTO was ordered with NO Reverse lights and 1 speed only wipers with no window washers. Try and replicate that!!! Exterior:
The exterior of this vehicle has been restored from the ground up and its original sheet metal is rust free both above the frame and underneath. Its Night-Watch blue paint(original color) has excellent depth and looking down the sides you'll see its a very straight car. There are some minor lacquer cracks here and there (see photos)The convertible top was replaced at the time of the restoration and works as it should. All the bright work and chrome are in excellent condition and its very hard to find any GTO trim not pitted. But take note in the pictures, the chrome and bright work are not only beautiful but are pit free. Its original wheels were redone and are wrapped in redline tires. All the glass is original and in excellent condition. Underneath has been cared for and is clean and solid. All the lights and marker lights work as well. This is a beautiful show car and driver. Its not perfect but has been well preserved and cared for throughout the years. View the pictures and let us know of any questions you may have.
Interior:
The interior is beautiful in every way. Every thing works in the interior. Please take note of the console. It virtually has no pitting. That is almost impossible to find even in the finest of restorations. The vent window frames are in excellent condition. There are no cracks, tears, or even wears in the interior and presents itself show ready. Please take a look at the pictures and let us know of any questions you may have.
Drive-Train:
The engine and transmission have been decoded and all date codes match correctly and the WT stamping is correct. The tri power set up has been added during its restoration, but the block and transmission are date coded correctly to the car. The engine has been always well maintained and has only 65k original miles on the drivetrain. The engine sounds beautiful, the transmission shifts flawlessly. Are riding components such as brakes, suspension, belts and hoses are all road worthy and ready to enjoy. Please watch and listen to the video and let us know ofn any questions you may have.
In Summation...
If you are looking for a GTO that has been well cared for over the years which is now being well preserved, this might be a great one to add to the collection. Its unusual color combination makes it stand out at local shows and events, and the lack of reverse lights and 1 speed wipers and NO window washers makes it a great story to tell when showing it off. It has been decoded and PHS documented and other then the Tri Power set up, its a numbers correct GTO. The owner is a private collector and has to thin out his herd.
