Description:

1960 Pontiac Bonneville

This 1960 Pontiac Bonneville convertible is a great example of 1960's U.S. automotive styling with some additional classic styling enhancements of the era. It's a real gunboat of a car, with Pontiac's "wide track" look and a length approaching 20 feet. It has had at least two lengthly storages during it's life: once during the '70s when the original Hydramatic transmission went sour and again in the '90s when paintwork was started but not completed until much later.
Since the '80s it has been powered by a 6.6L V-8 engine (reg fuel) and 350 TurboHydro trans from a 1978 Firebird TransAm. A very nice installation and the car drives out very well. The odometer reads approx 66,000 but actual mileage is unknown. The power steering and power brakes are excellent, all four power windows work, and the power convertible top (which is in great shape with a nice clear rear window) works perfectly. Upholstery and carpeting still present well with no issues. There is a 1980s era radio/equalizer/cassette deck installed in the console. The steering wheel and padded dash are excellent. The deck lid is released electrically with the push of a button. An electric cooling fan has been added should the need for additional cooling arise. Wheels are 15" with 225/75R15 tires.
At some point in the past ('60s?) some very nice custom bodywork was performed consisting of a functional Continental spare tire arrangement with accompanying custom panel work. The spare tire module rotates up and to the side to allow access to the fuel filler door (see pics). Also, custom fiberglass fender skirts extend all the way back to blend into the rear bumper. They attach with two bolts each and are easily removed for rear tire servicing (and the actual fenders beneath are in fine condition). The bucket seats are of unknown origin, and the console is believed to have been sourced from a Thunderbird. Taillight lenses are believed to be from a 1959 Cadillac.
As to overall condition: this vehicle is NOT being represented as concourse quality. It IS a damned nice 58 year old car that one should be proud to own and drive. In the interest of full disclosure I'm reporting the following: examination underneath will reveal floor pan repairs have been made. The heater controls (fan & temp) work but the vacuum activated blend control is unresponsive and appears to have failed in "defrost" mode (a good used heater control has been sourced and will be included in the sale - see pic). The fuel gauge is a little hinky but seems to work ok where it counts (at half tank or less). All power windows respond well from the master control, but one of the rears responds in only one direction from the back seat controls (on rear of console). The left turn signal works, but does not "cancel" upon completion of a turn. All chrome and trim is original and shows minor dings/blemishes/blushes, but presents quite well overall - as does the car in it's entirety. Please keep in mind that, using Hagerty's online value guide, this car should rate as a #3 - #4 with a valuation of $27K-$40K.
I have been forthcoming in all that I know, but please know that this vehicle is being offered "as is" with NO warranty (it is, after all, 58 years old). It looks, runs, and drives out fine in it's current condition. Anyone wishing to come for inspection is welcome and, if flying in, I will pick you up at Flint's Bishop International Airport.
