Description:

1956 Pontiac Catalina STARCHIEF

I have reluctantly decided to sell my 1956 Pontiac Starchief Convertible. I offered it for sal, once before, but changed my mind thinking that I would get to it soon. That did not happen so here it is.

I have now included, in this auction a 1955 Pontiac Starchief CATALINA2 dr hardtop. It was a show car in Van Nuys way back when. Check out the custom paint on the roof! That had to have cost plenty! It also has shaved doors.

It is set up for a small block Chevy. Most of the body is pretty straight.

There are a number of parts missing from the hardtop. Windshield, engin, trans, exhausts, seats to mention a few things. The rear suspension is present but only the front of the springs are bolted in. Not the rear and the 3rd member is missing some U bolts.

The good thing is that the floors are cherry and would make great donors for the ragtop. It would be too bad to butcher it though. It could be back on the road very quickly.

I bought the convertiblein Joshua Tree Ca a couple of years ago. The story was that it had been in outdoor storage since 1972. It was sold at a storage auction. The seller installed brand new rear springs as the old ones were sagging and rusted. He had been asking $17,500 for it.

The top had been gone for decades and it rained inside the car rusting out both the front and rear floor pans. Both rockers and quarters have some rust. The right door has some in the bottom. There is a little rust in the two rear corners of the trunk. I have included pics of all of it. The spare tire well is not rusted.

When I got the car it hadbald, low profile, blackwall tires. No hubcaps. The carb and lower portion of the oil bath air cleaner were missing and one headlight ring. The grille, bumper and grille guard were twisted and bent. I have included a pic from the day that I got it.

Since then I located 4 correct hubcaps from two different eBay sources, located the correct carb, had it rebuilt and installed, purchased another 56 Pontiac and swapped out the bent front end pieces, the steering wheel and radio, pulled the plugs and put Marvel Mystery Oil down the cylinders but have not tried to start it as yet.

I have not yet located the lower portion of the air cleaner or the headlight ring. I do have some parts left over from the other Pontiac. Auto. trans, radiator, radio, fuel tank rear windshield and a bunch of stainless trim. It was a Chieftan 4 dr hardtop.

I have located the replacement floor pans, on eBay for about $200 or you could use the donor car.

Most of the body is dent free. There is a dent above the left tail light. The old gal still wearsher original patina paint!I think that I have both of the 1963 issue black California plates for it.

I have lien sale paperwork on it. There are no back fees and it is out of the California DMV system.

I am selling both vehicles with a bill of sale. If you need a title, for export, I will be happy to get one, in my name. AFTER THE CAR IS PAID FOR. It will take 2 weeks to a month for me to have it in hand.

If I sell the convertible, without the hardtop, then I will sell the hardtop separately but do not want to sell just the hardtop as I need the parts, for the convertible, if it does not sell.

The car is for sale, locally, so I do reserve the right to end the auction early.

MOST OF THE CARS IN THE BACKGROUND, OF THE PICS, HAVE BEEN SOLD, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE 59 NASH METROPOLITAN.

I live in Southern California about 75 miles North of Santa Barbara and 10 miles South of Pismo Beach right off of the 101. I have a car trailer and can deliver it, after it is paid for. $1/mile round trip up to 200 miles or so.

I am not too interested in trades as I have over 20 vehicles. I need to put some cash into home repairs and a trans for my 2006 Dodge with a Cummins and auto. trans. but I may look at: Nova Camaro Mustang Boss Mach Yenko SS RAT HOT ROD BAGGED SMALL BIG CLOCK CHEVY OR FORD MAYBE MOPAR BEL AIR NOMAD SAFARI LOW RIDER BARN FIND ETC.
