1968 Pontiac GTO, PHS documented w/matching numbers, very original w/paperwork
1968 Pontiac GTO
I am offering up my 1968 Pontiac GTO for auction. It is a PHS documented, 242 VIN #, Fremont California built Z code, numbers matching car. I have the original manual packet with owners manual and warranty booklet, dealer order form, pre-delivery inspection form, payment receipt, and the original or first registration slip. I also have the original numbered keys, and knockouts. Plus, a thick folder with receipts dating back to warranty work in 1968. The GTO was purchased from Totem Pontiac in Seattle, Washington.
Body - The GTO is the original K code Meridian Turquoise. It has a driver quality re-spray with some minor chips and scratches over time. The body is solid with excellent gaps all the way around. The doors shut solid as well as the trunk. The Endura front bumper is crack free and fits well. The front lower valance is in excellent shape and straight. There is norust or evidence of previous rust that I can find. The bottoms of the front fenders, door corners and bottoms, rocker panels, corners of hood anddeck lid, and bottoms of quarter panels are clean. There is no evidence of rust beneath the rear glass. The frame is super clean and straight. The floors are excellent with no signs of repair or rust. The trunk is solid as well with no signs of repairs. It does have some surface ruston the left side only. All the corners, sides, and wheel housingsare excellent.
Trim - The wing window chrome is in nice shape, brightand not pitted. The stainless trim is straight and in nice shape. The rear bumper is not pitted or peeling, but does have some of those black dots, fading, and a very slight bend in it which is not super noticeable. The grill and lenses are in nice shape as well. Emblems are in good shape. Window stainless is straight and in good shape. Factory side mirror is in excellent shape. Door handles aren't pitted and bright. Hubcaps are in really nice shape.
Interior - Dash wood grain and trim is in really nice shape. Gauges all work and are bright and clear. Dash pad is in good shape with a few very small horizontal splits above the radio which are not noticeable. Replacement Kenwood stereo works fine. Steering wheel has one very minor crack at 12 o'clock, but is in good shape and the trim ring is in excellent condition. Gear shift and turn signal stalk are bright and not pitted. Headliner is in good shape with no tears or sagging. Door panels are in great shape. Seats are in nice condition with some wear at the entry point on the driver's side.Seat backs have no cracks, but do have some light scratches. Package tray looks new. Carpet is in good condition with some dirt marks. There are no aftermarket gauges or speakers cut into anything.Someone over the years added a very tiny"NoSmoking" sticker to the dash in the middle.Probably could be removed easily, but I have not triedto.
Engine - Numbers matching, YS coded, 400cubic inch V-8 rated at 350 horsepower. Replacementquadrajet, but all othercomponents are date coded original as faras I can tell. All stock, no aftermarket manifolds.
Mechanically - The GTO runs out good, but this car has been sitting for a while with limited use. The next step would be to rebuild or replace the carburetor as it will occasionally load up after running for a while or maybe it just needs to be driven more. It starts well, with no smoke or noises. It does seep some fluids over time likemost GMs do, but nothing major or a concern .It has a very nice rumble from an updated exhaust system from front to back. The transmission shifts well. No rear end noise. The brakes were done not too long ago and work like they should. The suspension is nice and tight with an upgrade to Hotchkis rear trailing arms, shocks, and sway bar. Tires are in good shape. Hidden headlights work as they should. All lights work.
Overall, this is a really nice, clean, mostly original 1968 GTO that hasn't been beat up. It really stands out with it original Meridian Turquoise over turquoise interior color scheme. It is a driver that looks good and gets plenty of waves and thumbs up. It is an excellent candidate to take to the next level or just drive it as is with pride. It is hard to find them this clean and rust free, which attests to it being garage kept and then stored in a warehouse for many years.
I have many additional pictures and a video of the car running for serious bidders. Also, please feel freeto ask any and all questions you may have about the GTO. I can be reached at 847-727-8388 which is my cell. The GTO resides in my garage here in Edmonds, Washington which is about 30 minutes northof the Space Needle in Seattle. Thanks for viewing theauction and good luck with the bidding.
