THIS FIGURE INCLUDES ALL VEHICLES ( CATALINA, BONNEVILLE, AND GRAND PRIX). UNFORTUNATEL, THERE IS NO BREAK DOWN, NOR IS THERE ANY PRODUCTION DATA ON THE 3.90:1 AXLE RATIO.
TOTAL OPTIONS ON THIS CAR INCLUDE 3-2 BARREL 425 - A ENGINE CODE 11 E, THE E DESIGNATES THE SPECIAL ORDER 390: 1 AXLE, ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS ENGINE OPTION IS H.D. THE 425 - A OPTION WAS BUILT FOR SERIOUS WARFARE, MUCH MORE THAN JUST A TRI POWER PONTIAC.
BORG WARNER CLOSE RATIO 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION

BACK UP LAMPS
POWER STEERING
SOFT - RAY - GLASS - ALL
800X14 WHITEWALL TIRES
8 LUG ALUMINUM DRUMS
ALSO INCLUDED IN THE GP OPTION IS BUCKET SEATS AND CONSOLE, CONSOLE MOUNTED TACHOMETER.
THE CAR HAS ALL OF IT'S ORIGINAL PAINT, DENT AND SCRATCH FREE, NO DAMAGE. A COMPLETELY RUST FREE BODY WHEREVER YOU LOOK . EQUALLY IMPORTANT, NO DAMAGE TO THE BUMPERS OR CHROME, ETC. THIS CAR WAS STORED IN A GARAGE THAT WAS DRY AND BREATHED WELL AND THAT'S WHAT PRESERVED IT SO WELL. FREE OF ANY MOISTURE ISSUES.
ORIGINAL MUFFLERS AND TAIL PIPES, MUFFLERS DATE CODED 3-62. STILL QUIET AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
ORIGINAL TIRES (SPARE TIRE AND JACK APPEAR TO BE NEVER TAKEN OUT OF THE CAR.) MINT TRUNK MAT.
MINT ORIGINAL BATTERY CABLES, HOOD PAD, DATE CODED PLUG WIRES, SHOCKS, BELTS, ORIGINAL MASTER CYLINDER AND WHEEL CYLS. STAINLESS STEEL SLEEVED TO NEVER GO BAD. ALL ORIGINAL AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE FEW PARTS THAT I DID REPLACE I KEPT AND PUT ON THE SHELF INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL HOSES. I ALSO HAVE THE ORIGINAL EXPIRED BATTERY.
BUILT IN PONTIAC MICHIGAN, THE FACTORY LAID THIS THICK PAPER COVERING ON ALL THE FLOORING BEFORE INSTALLING THE CONSOLE TO PROTECT THE CARPETING DURING TRANSPORTATION AND FOR THE DEALER TO REMOVE AFTER THE SALE. THE REMNANTS OF THAT FLOOR COVERING ARE STILL VISIBLE UNDER THE CONSOLE. THE CONSOLE HAS NEVER BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THE CAR. SEE PICTURES. CARPETING LOOKS NOS. THE ENTIRE INTERIOR IS IMMACULATE.
.
IN 2005 I REBUILT THE CARBURETORS. THE ORIGINAL GOLD ANODIZED CARB PLATING AND FUEL LINES STILL LOOK AS NEW. ALL THE ORIGINAL VACUUM OPERATED LINKAGE AND VACUUM RESERVOIR ARE COMPLETE AND OPERATE AS THEY SHOULD.
ALSO AT THAT TIME I REMOVED THE INTAKE, VALLEY PAN, AND THE TIMING COVER AND REMOVED ALL THE OLD PAINT. THEN PAINTED AND RESEALED THOSE ITEMS TOUCHING UP THE ENGINE WHERE NEEDED TAKING THE PCV BRACKET AND COLOR MATCHING THE PAINT PERFECTLY INCLUDING THE PROPER SHEEN. FROM THE CAR SITTING SO LONG W/O ANY ATTENTION THE THERMOSTAT LEAKED ALL OVER INTO THE VALLEY AREA AND THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE AND CAUSED THE PAINT TO COME LOOSE. AND IT LOOKED LIKE AT ONE TIME WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED THAT THE NEEDLE VALVES HAD STUCK AND THE GAS BADLY STAINED THE INTAKE. TO TOP IT OFF THE ENGINE HAD BEEN POWER WASHED AND THAT BLEW SOME OF THE PAINT OFF THE VALVE COVERS.
BELIEVE ME I PAINSTAKING DID THIS MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WENT RIGHT BACK THE SAME WAY THAT I TOOK IT APART. THE LOCATION OF THE CARB TAGS, HOW THE PLUG WIRES AND WIRE HARNESS WERE LAID, WHICH WAY THEY BENT THE COTTER PINS, EVEN WHICH WAY THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRING ENDS FACED. EVERY ITEM GOT THE SAME ATTENTION. ALSO I REPLACED ALL THE ORIGINAL HOSES AT THAT TIME AS WELL. THE UPPER HOSE WAS GETTING READY TO BURST. THE ENGINE HAS NEVER BEEN OUT OF THE CAR.
EVERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY EXCEPT THE CLOCK NEEDS CLEANING. THE OIL AND THE COOLANT HAVE BEEN CHANGED ON A REGULAR BASIS BY MYSELF.
THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RACED OR HOT RODDED IN ANY WAY. THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS A GUY WHO JUST WANTED TO FIT INTO THE CROWD. IN MY TWO DAY VISIT WITH HIM HE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS THE ONLY NEW CAR THAT HE HAD EVER BOUGHT. HIS CAR PRIOR TO THIS WAS A 49 BUICK. HOW'S THAT FOR STEPPING UP. HE ORIGINALLY WANTED AN OLDS STARFIRE BUT WHEN HE FOUND OUT THAT THEY DIDN'T OFFER A MANUAL TRANS. HE WENT WITH THE PONTIAC.
THE CAR WAS DEALER UNDERCOATED. IT APPEARS THAT THE CAR WASN'T DRIVEN IN THE RAIN BUT HAS RAN THROUGH SOME PUDDLES. THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION WHERE PAINTED ARE STILL MOSTLY BLACK SHOWING SLIGHT PATINA. TYPICAL GM PRODUCTION PAINTWORK IN THOSE AREA'S. NOT WHAT YOU SEE ON TODAY'S TRAILER QUEENS, BEING OVER RESTORED.
SPECIAL ORDERED BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER. DRIVEN LOCALLY IN WICHITA KANSAS FROM 1962 TILL 1966. THEN THE OWNER PARKED THE CAR AND CONTINUED TO BUY LICENSE PLATES FOR 1967, 68, 69, 70 AND 71 BUT NEVER INSTALLED THEM. THEY ARE STILL STAPLED SHUT WITH THEIR DATED REGISTRATIONS IN THE TRUNK OF THE CAR ALL MATCHING THE ORIGINAL OWNERS 62 REGISTRATION WHICH IS STILL IN THE GLOVE BOX ALONG WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUALS. THE LAST INSTALLED 1966 PLATE IS STILL ON THE CAR TODAY. KANSAS IS A ONE PLATE STATE, THE LEFTOVER UNUSED GM FRONT LICENSE PLATE MOUNTING PACKAGE FROM THE DEALER PREP IS STILL IN THE TRUNK OF THE CAR.
I HAVE A DETAILED MAP FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHERE HE MOSTLY DROVE THE CAR. FROM HIS LATER RESIDENCE TO THE LOCAL STANDARD GAS STATION AND TO SEVERAL DRIVE IN HANGOUTS IN TOWN. I ALSO HAVE A GOOD AMOUNT OF PAPERWORK INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL MORTGAGE AGREEMENT, ORIGINAL BANK PAYMENT BOOK OF 36 PAYMENTS OF $107.00 A MONTH, MILEAGE DISCLOSURE, ORIGINAL DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS KEY CHAIN LICENSE PLATES FOR 1968 STILL IN THE PACKAGE, INSURANCE POLICIES, THE ORIGINAL TOWELS THAT HE COVERED THE FLOOR MATS WITH SO HE DIDN'T GET THEM DIRTY, WRITTEN ON THE TOWELS PONTIAC - DARREL.
I HAVE PICTURES OF THE CAR WHEN IT WAS FIRST TAKEN OUT OF STORAGE. NOTE IN THIS PICTURE THE CAR WAS JUST MOVED FROM WICHITA TO DERBY KS. AND THE HEAVIEST OF THE DUST HAD JUST BEEN BLOWN OFF FROM BEING TRANSPORTED.
REMEMBER I TALKED ABOUT THE FACTORY 425 - A FREE FLOWING EX. MANIFOLDS EARLIER? JUST SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THE CAR THE ORIGINAL OWNER DECIDED THAT HE WANTED TO PUT A LITTLE MORE GRRRRR INTO HIS PONTIAC CHIEF. HE MADE A COUPLE MODIFICATIONS, MOST IMPORTANTLY HE ORDERED A COMPLETE 62 SUPER DUTY EXHAUST SYSTEM AND INSTALLED IT. USING ALL NEW GM PARTS INCLUDING ALL THE PARTS NECESSARY TO MAKE IT COMPLETE JUST AS IF IT WOULD'VE CAME ON AN ACTUAL S.D. CAR INCLUDING EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, COLLECTORS, EXHAUST PIPES, SPECIAL UPSIDE DOWN STARTER, SPECIAL POSITIVE STARTER CABLE, SPECIAL CLUTCH COUNTERSHAFT, SPECIAL COUNTERSHAFT BRACKET. ALL PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HIS FRIEND FROM THE LOCAL STANDARD GAS STATION IN TOWN.
IF FOR SOME REASON YOU THINK THAT THE SUPER DUTY EXHAUST MAY BE A LITTLE BIT TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT FOR YOU I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR THAT.
THINK ABOUT THIS. IN TODAY'S MARKET AN ACTUAL SUPER DUTY CAR IN THIS CONDITION AND WITH THIS MILEAGE WOULD BE UNHEARD OF LET ALONE AFFORDABLE TO MOST. REMEMBER THE 425 -A TROPHY ENGINE WAS ONLY THE NEXT CHECK BOX UNDER THE SUPER DUTY OPTION. 1962 WAS PONTIAC'S BIGGEST INVOLVEMENT IN RACING AND THE SUPER DUTY WAS AN ALL OUT RACE CAR AND NOT REALLY INTENDED FOR EVERYDAY STREET USE.
THE 425 - A WAS PONTIAC'S MOST POWERFUL STREET ENGINE AVAILABLE IN 1962 OFFERED WITH A 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION. TODAY A GREAT INVESTMENT FOR THE ONE WHO LIKES TO EQUALLY MAKE GREAT CHOICES.
IT MAY SEEM HARD TO BELIEVE HOW A CAR THAT IS 55 YEARS OLD COULD STILL BE IN THIS AMAZING CONDITION, LET ALONE A DESIRABLE MUSCLE CAR LIKE THIS. BUT IT IS.
THIS CAR WAS FEATURED IN PONTIAC ENTHUSIAST MAGAZINE NOV/DEC ISSUE OF 1997. ALSO IN POCI PRIX VIEWS NOV/DEC 2011. AND IN ZOOM CLASSICS MAY 1, 2005.
(NO FREE RIDES, NO TIRE KICKERS, OR PICTURE TAKERS.) SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY.
PAYMENT MUST BE MADE IN PERSON AND MUST CLEAR MY BANK BEFORE THE CAR MOVES.
LIKE ANY CAR PURCHASE YOU HAVE TO GO LOOK AT THE CAR FIRST. DON'T PLACE A BID AND WASTE OUR TIME PLEASE.
FOR SALE LOCALLY, I MAY END THIS AUCTION AT ANY TIME.
I LIVE 5 MINUTES FROM THE CHICAGO SPEEDWAY IN JOLIET, IL. OR ABOUT 70 MINUTES SOUTHWEST OF MIDWAY AIRPORT IN CHICAGO, IL.
I CAN GIVE YOU SOME NAMES OF SOME REPUTABLE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE CAR IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS BUYER.
SINCE EBAY WILL ONLY ALLOW 24 PICTURES I MAY TAKE OUT AND PUT IN OTHERS IN THEIR PLACE SO YOU MAY SEE OTHER AREA'S OF THE CAR.
