THIS CAR STARTED OUT AS A 2- DOO, FACTORY BURGUNDY-RED COLOR WITH A BLACK VINYL TOP AND BLACK VINYL BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR WITH A 6.4L, 389 4-V ENGINE AND A TURBO-HYDRAMATIC 400 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
THIS CAR UNDERWENT A FRAME ON COSMETIC RESTORATION. THIS IS NOT A FRESH RESTORATION BUT IT WAS DONE OVER A 10 YEAR PERIOD. THE COLOR WAS CHANGED TO G.M. WHITE BASE COAT / CLEAR COAT THAT WAS DONE APPROXIMATELY 10 YEARS AGO. BOTH FRONT GRILLS WERE ALSO REPAINTED. IT STILL LOOKS SHINY AND SMOOTH. TWO YEARS AGO THE CAR RECEIVED A NEW BLACK VINYL TOP, NEW HEADLINER, NEW CARPET, BOTH FRONT SEATS WERE UPHOLSTERED AND NEW REAR PACKAGE TRAY. THE REAR SEAT [SEE PIC] HAS A SLIGHT BLEMISH ABOUT THE SIZE OF A DIME. A NEW WINDSHIELD WAS INSTALLED. DASH DOES HAVE A SMALL CRACK AND SO DOES STEERING WHEEL [SEE PIC]. AN ORIGINAL PERIOD, CORRECT PONTIAC TACHOMETER AND A 4-SPEED CONSOLE, MANIFOLD VACUUM GAUGE WAS INSTALLED DURING THE RESTORATION. THE INTERIOR WOOD IS ALL ORIGINAL TO THE CAR! THE ORIGINAL ENGINE WAS TAKEN OUT AND ENGINE BAY WAS PAINTED. THE ENGINE RECEIVED NEW BEARINGS, OIL PUMP, TIMING CHAIN AND GEAR KIT AND NEW CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS. THE THREE CARBURETORS WERE ALL REBUILT WITH NEW PARTS AND AND A TUNE-UP WAS DONE. THE FRONT END SUSPENSION WAS REBUILT AND ALIGNED AS WELL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR THEN RECEIVED A LONG TAIL MUNCIE 4-SPEED TRANSMISSION. WHICH WAS REBUILT WITH NEW BEARINGS AND SEALS. A NEW HURST 4-SPEED SHIFT ASSEMBLY AND BALL KNOB PLUS LINKAGES WERE INSTALLED. A NEW CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE AND THROW-OUT BEARING WAS INSTALLED. A NEW DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM WITH STOCK MUFFLERS WERE INSTALLED. THIS CAR WAS FITTED WITH BRAND NEW AMERICAN CLASSIC TIRES THAT ARE P235-75R-14 INCH WHITE WALLS. THEY RIDE ON 8-LUG PONTIAC RIMS WITH BRAND NEW CHROME TRIM RINGS AND NEW CHROME LUG NUTS. ALL NEW BRAKES AND HARDWARE WERE INSTALLED BOTH FRONT AND REAR. ALL BRAKE DRUMS WERE MACHINED BEFORE INSTALLING BRAKES. THEY WORK FANTASTIC. THE TRUNK HAS A NEW RUBBER TRUNK MAT PLUS 8-LUG SPARE RIM WITH NON-MATCHING SPARE TIRE. THIS CAR WAS FITTED WITH AIR BAGS IN THE REAR SUSPENSION FOR ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT. THIS BEAUTY HAS A GREAT STANCE! THE FRAME WAS THEN UNDER COATED FRONT TO BACK SOME YEARS AGO. IT STILL LOOKS PRESENTABLE. THE PREVIOUS OWNER TOLD ME THIS CAR STILL RETAINS ITS MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINE WITH ORIGINAL 55,070 MILES. THIS CAR DRIVES OUT SMOOTH AND SOMEWHAT QUIET WITH NO RATTLES OR SHAKES. THIS CAR IS 50 YEARS OLD SO IT'S NOT PERFECT. SO IF YOU'RE A PERSON WHO EXPECTS PERFECTION ON A 50 YEAR OLD CAR, THEN PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MINE. THE LAST OWNER TOLD ME HE MOUNTED THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH INSIDE THE CONSOLE COMPARTMENT AS WELL AS THE REAR BACK UP LIGHT SWITCH. THEY BOTH WORK GREAT AND ARE NOT VISIBLE OUTSIDE THE CONSOLE. IT HAS POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. IT'S A NON-A/C CAR AND NO POWER WINDOWS OR SEATS. EVERYTHING WORKS EXCEPT FOR THE RADIO, CLOCK AND HORN AS FAR AS I KNOW. THIS CAR WAS TAKEN APART AND BUILT BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND WITH THE HELP OF HIS P.H.S. CLUB MEMBERS. HE WANTED IT TO BE A 421 TRI-POWER 4-SPEED BIG BLOCK GRAND PRIX. WHEN I GOT THE CAR I HAD A FRIEND DO ALL THE CHANGES. THAT IS WHY THE CAR HAS THE EMBLEMS AND DECALS OF A 421 G.P.. PREVIOUS OWNER TOLD ME HE SPENT MANY YEARS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS LOOKING FOR THE 1966 ORIGINAL GRAND PRIX PARTS . THE PARTS WERE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND, ESPECIALLY THE CONSOLE, BRAKE AND CLUTCH PEDALS, DRIVE SHAFT AND THE CORRECT 1966 4-SPEED MUNCIE LONG TAIL. THIS CAR WAS BUILT WITH ALL ORIGINAL 1966 PONTIAC G.P. PARTS AND SOME 1966 CATALINA DRIVE TRAIN AND INTERIOR PARTS. THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID NOT KEEP RECEIPTS OF LABOR COSTS OR PARTS BUT HE DID SHOW ME THE CREDIT CARD BILLS. THEY HAD SOME MASSIVE COSTS ON THEM. BUT I KEPT MY RECEIPTS OF WHAT I DID TO THE CAR AND TOTALED OVER $3000.00. THE PARTS THAT WERE TAKEN OFF THE CAR WILL GO WITH THE CAR TO THE NEXT OWNER, SUCH AS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, CONSOLE, BRAKE PEDAL AND A USED DASH BOARD. I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THE CAR IS NOT PERFECT. THE PAINT IS A VERY NICE, DRIVER QUALITY WITH A FEW BLEMISHES HERE AND THERE IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO LOOK. THE BUMPERS HOWEVER COULD USE RE-CHROMING. THE BOTTOM POT METAL IS DRIVER QUALITY [SOME PITTING IN CERTAIN AREAS]. THIS CAR HAS A 389 6.4L TRI-POWER RIGHT NOW. ENGINE RUNS STRONG! NO SMOKE, NO TICKING OR OTHER ENGINE ISSUES. THE WINDOW CHROME TRIM IS VERY NICE WITH SOME SLIGHT WEAR DUE TO AGE. ALL NEW WEATHER STRIPPING WAS ALSO INSTALLED DURING THE RESTORATION. A LOT OF MONEY AND LABOR WENT INTO THIS CAR. I SET THE RESERVE QUITE LOW. THIS CAR IN MY OPINION IS A BEAUTIFUL MUSCLE CAR AND NEVER HAS BEEN ABUSED OR RACED. IT'S VERY NOSTALGIC, VINTAGE LOOKING AND RELIABLE TOO!! IT IS THE TALK OF ANYWHERE I TAKE IT. THIS CAR ATTRACTS ATTENTION!! THEY ARE A SOMEWHAT RARE CAR. BUT, TO HAVE A 4-SPEED, IT TAKES THE CAR TO A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL. THEY BUILT ONLY 917 4-SPEED GRAND PRIXS IN 1966. THE ONLY 4-SPEED GPS I EVER SAW WERE OLD, APART, RESTORATION PROJECTS AND JUST BEAT DOWN JUNK PARTS CARS. THIS ONE HAS EXTREME CURB APPEAL!!
