1969 Plymouth Other Road Runner
This 1969.5 Plymouth Road Runner A12 coupe is powered by a period correct replacement 440ci V8 topped by a trio of A12 coded two-barrel carburetors and paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car was treated to a full restoration in the late 1990s and previous owners from that moment have all been contacted and have stayed connected with the car.One of 615 RM21 coupes produced, post car, this is the only B7 Jamaican Blue M21 automatic made and believed to be only 1 of 2 B7 A12's made. Couple that with a white vinyl top and white interior, this car has a stunning color combo with the factory fiberglass lift black lift off hood. This car has 2 sets of rims and tires, 15″ steel wheels H Code, Firestone bias-ply tires, and aftermarket rims and radial redlines currently on the car with a wider rear tire in 275/60 R15 giving it a more aggressive stance. The rear end is a factory Sure Grip with 4.10 gears, a dual exhaust system, a tachometer, and a push-button AM radio. This A12 Road Runner is #223 on the A12 registry and recently won 5th place at the prestigeous invite only Piston Power Summit Racing Nationals Show in it's class of over 50 cars. You may also recognize the car from the decades of attending Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle.
The cabin was refreshed in 2018 and features front and rear bench seats upholstered in white vinyl complemented by matching door panels and a contrasting dashboard and carpeting. Features include a heater/defroster, lap belts, front vent windows, a locking glovebox, and a push-button AM radio. Winner of Best Interior at car shows, and its very comfortable to drive.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, voltage, and coolant temperature. A Stewart-Warner oil-pressure gauge has been added beneath the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 40k original miles, approximately 250 of which were added under current ownership.
The replacement 440ci V8 features a Mopar Performance purple camshaft and three two-barrel Holley carburetors. The engine is strong and the car can be driven anywhere and is reliable.Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission with a 5.0 kickdown lever, a Hughes Performance 3,500-rpm torque converter, and a Dana 60 Sure Grip rear axle with 4.10:1 gears.
Fender tag and all body number match including core support and trunk #s as well as radiator. The car was drag raced virtually straight off the show room floor at the famed New England Race Way throughout the early 70's. The original engine was blown and the car raced with a 426 Hemi. A 1972 Pit Pass still resides on the sun visor.
The chrome moldings, chrome bumpers, exhaust tips are all in nearly perfect condition. The body lines are straight with no gaps including the fiberglass hood. The engine compartment is extremely clean, showing the famous beep beep horn in factory purple and the contrasting orange block and air cleaner for the 6 packs. The valve covers could use a fresh paint to make it a 10 out of 10, the numbers date coded exhaust manifolds show well. The hood lifts for car shows come with the car.
This car is in my Private Collection. It is an incredibly rare Real M Code Real A12 car done right. The restoration is showing its age as there are a few paint blotches seen by the most critical eye. You can drive this show, compete as a Show Winner and be proud of something that draws the attention of everyone.
