Description:
1962 Plymouth Signet 200
Rare survivor first generation Plymouth Valiant Signet 200 hardtop. Low original miles (90k). Push button automatic. The Signet 200 was the top of the line Valiant in 1962. But what makes this particular car special is the 225 slant six aluminum block engine, which is original to this car. Chrysler eventually dropped the aluminum block engine option after a short run since they were losing money on each one. I have met numerous Mopar fans at Cars & Coffe/car shows and most had never seen an aluminum block six in person before.
Built at the California plant, this Valiant spent nearly its entire life in California and then Arizona. Now garaged in Virginia and collector owned. The paint is believed to be original and shows a bit of sun fade but would look more awesome with a good detailing. You'll find the usual small bumps and scratches but is an extremely well kept survivor. The last photo showing the roof reveals a bit of the thinning paint. The current owner has touched up a few spots here and there. As expected, from living in a dry climate, the body and floor is solid: no patches or filler anywhere.
All glass and chrome is very good. All windows roll up and down and are tight, smooth and quiet.
The previous owner had the engine removed a few years ago (less than 1000 miles ago) and the engine bay was tidied up. While removed the engine got a valve job with new springs, carb rebuilt, radiator cleaned and tested, Also during this period: new front shocks, electronic ignition, voltage regulator were added... A really nice upgrade, the front brakes were upgraded to disc brakes with new dual master cylinder.
Wheels and tires are 15 inch with 4.5 bolt pattern. The wheels appear like new and the tires are older but fine for around town driving.
The interior is excellent and all original. While the original radio is still in place, a previous owner added an am/fm stereo with rear deck lid speakers. The stereo is in a moveable custom made console that sits atop the center hump. Very nice headliner and sun visors. Seats are excellent but do show some sun fade compared to the door cards. New front lap belts were recently added.
Starts, runs and drives as it should. No smoke, no oil leaks. Fluids and filters recently replaced. All in all, a very clean car!
I keep this Valiant and other classic cars garaged at my home in Central Virginia. I am happy to accomodate potential buyers or their agents come and do a personal inspection with an appointment. Clean Virginia title in sellers name.
