1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda, 340 Auto V8
1970 Plymouth Barracuda
Stock 1970 AAR ‘Cuda with matching numbers and some documented history. This Rally Red 340 six pack, is a rare find with shifter on the column and bench seats. The car was originally sold at a dealership in Virginia. Original owner(s) are not known but it went to someone in West Virginia, who was restoring the car in 1989-1990. The car was then bought by another owner in Nevada, who did extensive research & decode with a restoration from 1990-1993. We bought the car from a friend acting as a broker for the Nevada owner in Los Angeles, CA in 1993. In 1994, we moved to North Carolina with the car and did a few items on the car that needed repair. The car has been garaged and covered the entire time only taking the car, trailed to Car Shows. The current odometer states 58,146, but it has not been driven distances after the odometer quit working.
The car has been in quite a few cars shows around North Carolina. Always winning 1st place in many Mopar categories and Best of Show in 2 shows due to its rarity and completely stock. Some show trophies and plaques will come with the vehicle.
I have been doing most of the maintenance myself (minor like replacing the water pump) and taking it to a few local mechanics to tune the six pack. The most recent did mechanical work by replacing the fuel tank due to deterioration, rebuilt and tuned the carbs, relacing coolant, transmission fluids, brake lines replacement and general service. The car is running the best it has in years.
All paperwork included details work done from 1990 until now, with receipts, research documentation, and extra articles. Original broadcast sheets, operator’s manual, picture from when we purchased in 1993, during the time we owned it and recent ones. Two sets of keys, not originals come with the car.
Body:
Overall body is good, no scratches or dents. Body Paint in very good shape. Hood rough paint is in good condition.
Antenna was taken off the car, due to being in a covered in the garage, but have it in the car to avoid damage.
Clean frame, clean underneath, never was ground up restoration at any time.
Interior:
Carpets are like brand new, no snags or tears.
Seat Upholstery still looking new, no tears or wear in them, Seatbelts are in good condition
General upper dashboard is in great condition, original with no wear or tears. Instrumentation dash is original and shows little age wear. Same for the steering wheel, original. Original radio, still works and odometer is currently not working, as stated above.
Trunk: trunk pad in good shape with original spare, and original can air bottle.
Headliner is in good shape, no wear, or tears. Interior panels all original front door driver and passenger sides normal wear, in good condition.
Mechanical and Electrical:
Front car lights work, one front light has a small hole in it, but works. Turn signals rear and front works, and horn works.
No Electrical issues
Major service was done in June of this year, as stated above, Brakes, Fuel tank, transmission, oil change, general maintenance.
All tires are new general street tires; tires are not Goodyear red lines, which would be correct for this model.
Battery is a standard new battery, not correct model replacement battery with yellow caps for the car.
Windshield washer reservoir- have new one, needs to be put in, still have the old one.
Extra Parts that come with the car:
The 4 original shocks were replaced shortly after we bought the car.
Original Windshield washer reservoir and replacement one(Year One)
1 extra battery tie down
Original Water Pump
1 replacement brake fluid cap
New replacement oil filter
Summary:
This is a clean great car with a certain rarity having a shifter on the column and bench seats. This does not take away the fact that its high-performance engine still runs with that deep throatiness that 340 sixpacks have. I have tons of pictures but can provide a video if requested. Having owned an original AAR ‘Cuda back in 1970, this decision is hard for us. This car has been in our family as long as our daughter been alive and we have always referred to it as her car, almost 30 years later. Even though there might be a few things to restore a bit more, there is not a lot, if you wish to keep it a stock show car, that you can have fun with. Our regular mechanic is always excited when we bring it in. Being a Mopar fan, he indicated that the car is worth what we are looking for.
