Hello Mopar Fans. Every once in a blue Moon, something very exciting comes up for sale and this is one of those times. If you miss this opportunity, it is not very likely you will ever have a chance like this again. 71 Cuda convertibles are desirable cars in general but options and colors can put the values all over the spectrum. This car has not had any options or colors changed or added. This is the way it left the factory. TX9 Black over Tan bucket seat interior and a white top with a 4spd Manual trans, console, rally dash, etc. It has only 52k original miles from new. The interior (carpet, dash, door panels, seats, etc) and top are original. The car was repainted in the original color, many years ago. It was recently featured in the book : 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda: Muscle Cars In Detail No. 2 by Ola Nilsson
The Body and Drive train are numbers matching original. The car was bought new in Long Island NY by the father of a lucky Medical School Graduate. The Graduate had the car serviced regularly by a local service station in Mineola LI. The owner of the station told the owner that if he ever decided to sell the car to please let him know. One day in the mid 70s, the exhaust began to fall off the car which frustrated the original owner who was making some life changes. He then offered to sell the car to the service station owner for $800. The 2nd owner kept the car until 1988 when he sold it to a local car collector for $1800, also in LI. The collector kept the car in his garage and put very few miles on the car but always kept the car registered and insured. I was lucky enough to purchase this car three years ago. The day I brought the car home, I began to search for the Broadcast sheet. I checked over the glove box, then under under and behind the front seats. Then the back seat bottom. I was getting worried until I pulled out the back seat top and was very excited when I saw the magic piece of paper whos VIN matched the car. This is a very solid original car. I cant find any rot in the trunk floo, frame or Floor pans. All outer body panels are clean. The only rust issues are the front inner fenders have a few small spots in the normal places as shown in pics. The firewall has some surface rust but is not serious (shown in pics). The rear trunk extensions still have the tabs in place but have had some minor deterioration around the drain holes )see pics). The body is solid and looks great at a small distance. It has it share or dings, dent, scratches and touch ups. The front splash pan is pushed up from pulling up to far when parking. Grill is in exceptionally nice condition. The original owner added non factor, stick on, body side moulding which I peeled off. It left some marks and it had its share of parking lot doors hitting the moulding which caused some minor denting. The pics at the end of the album show the paint after I buffed off the remaining rubber and glue from the mouldings.
Interior pics show the condition, some cracks in dash pad, minor wear on original carpet, glove box door doesnt close all the way. I have not looked into why. Nothing looks damaged. Seats show minor wear.
The car runs, drives and stops reliably. The exhaust is slightly loud due to holes in the mufflers.
How should you establish a value for this car you ask. Take the following into consideration:
1. 71 Hemi Cuda convertibles vary in value from $2.5 mill to approx 7 mill depending on Trans, options and colors. If one existed that was originally Black/white/tan 4spd, it would be at the top of the spectrum.
2. 71 440- 6pk Cuda Convertibles very in value from $450k- $1.8 mill. If one existed that was originally Black/white/tan 4spd, it would be at the top of this spectrum.
3. Next in line is the 383 Big Block Cuda convertible with only about 50hp difference from the 440-6. Past examples have sold between $90k - $285k.
4. Recap:
-Fantastic colors and options
-Numbers matching: body, door sticker, fender tag, dash tag, Engine, trans, etc
-Documented with original fender tag, broadcast shee, owner history and Galen Govier Decode
-Rare, one of only 33 4spd 71 cuda convertibles produced and optioned at the top of the desirability list.
I have been collecting 71 Cudas for the past 35 years. I have continually upgraded my collection to the most desirable examples that I could hunt down. I am selling one car to make room for an exotic car. If you have a cool exotic like a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Saleen S7, McLaren, etc, let me know. A few weeks ago, I sold a Sassy Grass Green Survivor 340 Cuda. It sold quickly and I have a long list of disappointed people that hesitated and wish they had purchased it. I am not thrilled about parting with this car. In fact, I will offer to sell any one of three cars at this time. In addition to this Car, I have another 71 Cuda Convertible that is being restored on the TV Show, Graveyard Carz on the upcoming season. It is an original Purple/white/white with a 3spd Manual trans. One of only 8 3spd manual Cuda convertibles produced in 1971. Numbers match with a broadcast sheet. The price will include the complete restoration and you will have the opportunity to appear on the show. The third car is a 1971 Hemi Cuda, Hemi Orange/black auto console, 4:10 Dana, numbers match with broadcast sheet, restored car.
