Description:
1973 Plymouth Barracuda
Unfortunately I have to sell my dream car.I have been building this for three years and have run out of money and I am completely frustrated with it and ready to sell it.I purchased this car three years ago with the idea to build a pro touring/resto-mod. When I found this car I am paid a high price to make sure I had a completely rust free car. Absolutely no rust on any panel on the car at all. I then had the car completely sanded down to metal from top to bottom and underneath. I painted the underneath of the car removed all parts and pieces painted them separately, then reinstalled everything with 90% new bushings throughout. I had a newly rebuilt 340 motor for this car that I removed to install a 5.7 L Hemi. With the engine removed I had the car painted inside and out including the engine compartment with a shiny black. When I got it back from the painter the first time I was not happy with the exterior. There were a couple imperfections so I decided to have someone else paint the car again that could do a better job. Before I sent it to paint I decided to drop the car off at a mechanic shop to install the 5.7 L engine I had. I found this motor with 45,000+ miles on it. I paid this mechanic to install the 5.7 Hemi . There are many modifications needed to get this motor to fit inside this car. This mechanic had this car for over a year so I lost my patience and decided to pick the car up unfinished. Even though he had the motor installedand almost finished when I pick the car up the transmission was not installed nor was the wiring harness (He kept because I pulled the car from him). He had the car running, But wanted to triple his price on me from his original estimate that I paidup front, so I said no and picked it up. Since the engine was installed and just the wiring harness needed to complete I decided to go ahead and get the paint and interior completed. I figured I would leave the transmission and wiring harness to be completed at the end by someone else.
I found a guy out of Pizmo beach to do the paint and interior. I chose a black interior with silver stitchingand stayed with the shiny black exterior and added a silver customCuda stripe. After a year and a half sitting over at this guys shop. I had to pull the project away from him also. Last week I got the car back and gave it a quick detail job to see what I needed to finish up. Almost all the interior work is complete, the dash, center consul, door panels, seats, headliner and carpet are all complete. I had him and wrap the center consul, dash, and door panels in black with the silver stitchingto match the seats and the exterior. The seats, headliner and carpet look amazing but the door panels center consul and dash need some work. The exterior paint on the car looks really good I had him put a lot of coats of clear on it to add depth. But I noticed there are some chips in the paint and in the right light there is a line that could be seen on the rear quarter panel where it joins the roof. In addition to these issues yesterday I was buffing the car and the pad wore through and I put a nice hole in the paint the size of a half dollar on the passenger door. Luckily it is close to where the mirror goes so the door does not necessarily have to be repainted. I have attached pictures of this.
So after Iput this hole in the paint, That is when I decided to throw my hands up and give up on my project. I'm pissed I got completely screwed over by three different people and tired of trying to build my dream car instead I'm going to try to buy one 100% complete one day when I have money again. I've invested so much time into this car and with over 50K into this car I don't have the money to finish it anyways. It is real close to being completed, If a guy put another 5K He could fix the paint, Finish the upholsteryand get a transmission installed with wiringharness. In addition to this I wanted to put in digital gauges, New steeringwheel (I Have an aftermarket that looks real cool), Four wheel disc. breaks (currently only has front disc). and a few other detail things like a barracuda airbrushed on the plastic shroud of the engine.
So here we go I'm going to start the bidding at $27,500. See if anyone wants to finish it. I watched Barrett Jackson this year and it seams that the resto-mod Cuda's are going way up in value, similar builds are going for well over 100K.
