1960 Plymouth 2-door Station Wagon Suburban V8 manual Nomad Original NO RESERVE
1960 Plymouth Fury Suburban
1960 Plymouth Deluxe Suburban - 2-door Station Wagon
V8, 3 speed manual
No Reserve!
Up for bids is my 1960 Plymouth Deluxe Suburban 2-door station wagon, a fairly rare bird, as these were the base models with only 5,503 made, so only a handful remain today. This one had been resting in a field in rural Missouri for many many years when I bought it brought it home to middle Georgia in February 2014. Alas, I must begin thinning my collection and this is one project I won't be getting to anytime soon.
She is well equipped for a base model, with a 318 V8, two-tone paint (original) "Desert Beige and Caramel Metallic", AM radio, and heater. She is all original with the V8 backed up by a 3-speed manual (3-on-the-tree).
Body wise, she is sporting the original paint. A few rust holes in the rear lower quarters and lower front fenders and some dings here and there. Please inspect the photos closely. I've restored several '60-61 Plymouth wagons and this one is in good shape versus some I've tinkered with. The doors and tailgate are solid and function well, including the manual rear window. All glass is good, a scar on the windshield from a deceased wiper years ago. The floors are shot. What's left of the original rubber floor mats contributed to the hole-y floors, with the help of sitting in a field for years. If you are not familiar with these cars, I can help you locate replacements: the aftermarket one's I've dealt with are serviceable, and originals can still be found as well.
The engine and transmission are original, condition is unknown. They haven't been touched in a very long time, although the engine still has dark oil on the dipstick. She rolls fine, no locked up wheels.
The interior is original, the rear seat in pretty good shape. The front, well, you can see it. Dash is complete, except the plastic speaker cover which has disintegrated into little tiny plastic bits. This is a 2-seat wagon; the 3-seat setup was only available with the 4-door Suburbans. Headliner panels are intact and can probably be saved. These are not available, so it would be worthwhile save these.
She's sporting early (1950s era) Mopar 15-inch wheels with decent bias-ply wide whitewalls and '56 Dodge hubcaps; I've got 3 of the original body-color rims and all 4 dog dish hubcaps with tires that don't hold air very well if you want them. One photo shows her with these.
I love these 2-door wagons and they are a unique look into life back in the day. Mainly used by handymen or budget-minded families, most were used up years ago and it is rare to find one today, especially one as complete as this one. I love the color combo on her also, a really neat one to see two-tone on a base model. I've offered her here at no reserve, it's time to let her go.
Please ask any questions before bidding, I'm happy to talk cars. Please bid responsibly, these auctions take time and money for the seller and I'm only offering her once. Georgia does not issue titles for cars older than 1963; I will sell her with a bill of sale, PLUS the Missouri title from 1970. She's at my work in middle Georgia, just north of Macon off I-75. Thanks for looking and bid often!!
