VERY NICE, #'S MATCH 340 V8, 727 AUTO, BUILD SHEET, CERTICARD, PWR STEER, DISCS!
1968 Plymouth Barracuda S
Plymouth entered the pony car wars in the late 60's with its own unique fastback style making this early 'Cuda a dramatic and uncommon alternative to Mustangs and Camaros. With a numbers-matching 340 V8, serious performance rebuild, factory-correct colors, and a first-rate restoration, this relatively rare and highly documented 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S is a fantastic choice if you're the kind who likes to color a bit outside the lines. The factory PP1 Matador Red paint looks fantastic on this restored vehicle. It's hard to believe work was done about 18 years ago, because it sill appears first-rate today having been under the same caring ownership that has only put 12,772 miles on the car since its complete restoration. So, the red looks good simply because the foundation is obviously very solid and straight. There are very few reproduction parts out there for these cars, so you know how nice and rare it is to see first-class workmanship on this iconic fastback style. Panel gaps are excellent, which means the doors close with the unique classic Chrysler authority. For those few who know their Barracuda coupes, this one does not disappoint. It has the right features such as the aggressive full-length Formula S triple stripe, 340 callouts on the hood trim, and even the retro cool appearance of the standard Plymouth hubcaps with the logo in a wheel/body matching red.The Barracuda had a true sporty design, and this black interior shows it off perfectly. The bucket seats, door panels, and carpets all feel fresh, dark, and factory-correct. Your left hand goes on the factory wheel with a barracuda on the center cap, and your right one rests on the chrome shift lever. As you look across the dashboard, the sea of black is artfully broken up by plenty of stainless and chrome that's on everything from the heat/defrost controls, to the original AM radio, to the center console...it's truly '60s. But then you begin to spot a few nice upgrades. Hidden below the dash is a modern AM/FM/CD stereo that gives you modern music without ruining the vintage atmosphere. Plus, the lager tach mounted on the upper ceiling/windshield tells you there is something special going on in the engine bay. This numbers-matching 340 cubic-inch V8 under the hood is quite special. It was introduced in '68 to combine high-performance and lightweight. This motor takes that spirit and turns up the power. Beneath the very stock appearance, the V8 was rebuilt during the restoration (less than 13K miles ago) to include a bored .30 over kit, balanced TRW forged pistons (10.5:1 compression), Mopar Performance Cam with .455 lift, Comp Cams pushrods, roller rockers, ported and polished heads, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and more. It even has hardened valve seats to run excellent on modern unleaded fuel. This full power package fires up nicely and makes all the right intimidating sounds out of the dual exhaust. The V8 is mated to a TorqueFlite 727 three-speed with a reverse manual valve body that sends power to the highway-friendly 3.23 rear end. Add that to the heavy duty suspension from the Formula S package, front disc brakes, and power steering, and this is the classic performance car that feels better going down the road than just about any other pony car of its era.More than just thoroughly invested and cared for, this Barracuda comes with some serious documentation, including the factory buildsheet, owner's manual, and Chrysler exclusive Certicard documenting the first owner. Even with the popular fastback styling, there were only about 22,500 produced that year. To find another one this well restored and ready to run will be near impossible. Don't miss out!!
