1956 Packard 400

Here's the car you've been looking to find..."Ask the man who owns one." The last of the Real Packards, the last to roll out of the East Grand Boulevard plant in Detroit, Michigan. The 1956 Packard 400 2-door hardtop.

This car is #2777 of an exclusive 3,224 Packard Four-Hundred models made in 1956. It features a 374 cubic inch engine featuring a massive (for the time) 290hp in stock trim; significantly more than even the V-8 1956 Chevrolet Corvette. The car is a true barn find and was saved from an ignominious fate. It is not running or driving, but appears to be complete with the exception of the rear glass, wheel covers, and three broken parking light lenses. The odometer shows almost 37,000 and judging by the appearance of this car, they may actually be original. It is in need of a full restoration, but will be worth it when done. The floors and trunk pan are rock solid. The outer rockers will need replacing. It looks like most of the trim and emblems are there, but may be missing a couple here and there. There is no title, but it does come with a bill of sale. The car will roll and steer, but does not run and has no brakes. The engine is free and turns by hand and starter. The rear portion of the Torsion Level suspension is non-functional so wood blocks were placed above the rear to keep the back from sagging. The transmission is also stuck in gear, so the driveshaft was disconnected to allow it to roll. The car is otherwise complete to the best of my knowledge. I don't have the time/money to restore it at present time, and haven't won the lottery yet, but this is certainly a car worth restoring.

This car does NOT come with a title, but will come with a bill of sale. Buyer must arrange for your own transportation. The tires will hold air long enough to load on a trailer, but go flat in about an hour. Will need to be put on a rollback or trailer to be brought to its new home. I can deliver along the I-95 corridor between Richmond VA and Trenton NJ for a fee.
