BARN FIND 1984 911 Porsche Carrera Targa ROLLER

Black over Tan Targa, ready for a back-date, engine upgrade or Safari-Dakar project

Offered on Idaho Title, with Car located in Boise, ID. Title in hand and ready to transfer.

Transportation available (enclosed trailer) flat-rate to AZ, NM, CA, NV, CO and OR, or seller will work with buyer on transport logistics post-closing.

Offered here is a rust-free, High-Desert Porsche 911 Targa Carerra

Was acquired 15 years ago for a re-engine back-date project that never came together. The motor we had went into a 912 and we never found the right drivetrain combo for this TARGA. We’ve pivoted to more Italian based projects, so it’s time to let this nice 911 Targa go to a new owner and a new vision.

Body is straight and corrosion free. Was found and purchased out of an actual barn years ago in rural Idaho. Interior is in good shape. No tears or rips in seats. Door cards and rear deck with no damage and dashboard intact and ready for your project. The primary interior concern is the (typical) cracking on the top of the dash, which can be addressed with replica dash cover or cap.

Pros:

Rust free roller ready for a 3.6L upgrade. A back-date treatment? Conversion to Safari/Dakar trim? Sky’s the limit.

This is a solid basis for any air-cooled classic 911 Porsche project.

Glass is in excellent shape, no cracks nor star damage

Includes fully functional braking system, from pedal to master to hard lines to calipers.

Oil system with tank, lines, cooler and cap intact

Door cards and seats are in great shape. Carpet is dirty but not worn through.

Includes a worn, but functional, Targa roof. Can be used as-is, or more likely, refurbished with fresh fabric for like-new look.

Includes both rear axles, complete from hubs to flanges to 915 Porsche transaxle bolts. (Transaxle NOT included.)

Suspension is complete, sway bars and links intact.

Paint is in good shape, with a few chips and door dings.

Front and rear bumpers, and covers, in good condition

Body lines straight, no signs of collision damage or mods

100% intact underneath. Lines, mounts in place. Even two rear engine support mounts in good shape.

Wiring is intact from dash to the rear engine compartment, as set up for a 3.2L stock motor from 1985

Even the tail lights, turn signal lenses and rear fascia plastics (prone to cracking) are flawless. No cracks, no breaks.

Hardware for the Targa Roof is complete-- and it's usable as-is or ready for a re-fabric renovation.

Specific Exclusions

1) Given the wide variety of possible projects, a rear decklid is not included. We have several other non-correct decks (ie not for a ‘85 Targa) around the shop, including a 930 Turbo whale tail, a late 80s duck tail and others. None of these would be right for, say, a 911 Carrera RS homage or an earlier back-date. Seller happy to discuss what’s on hand for a separate sale, but this listing DOES NOT include a rear deck lid.

2) There is currently a 915 transmission, of unknown provenance, underneath the car. This transaxle is NOT INCLUDED in the sale, since we know nothing of the part. It will be pulled PRIOR TO SHIPMENT and is specifically excluded from this listing. This exclusion will also encompass the shift linkage, rods, couplers and the shifter/boot. It’s anticipated that the Buyer will upgrade drivetrain, perhaps to a G50 or later gearbox, or a sequential style or newer P-car transmission. For these reasons the 915 is EXCLUDED from sale and will be tech-evaluated, with a possible listing in separate auction. Both drive axles ARE included in the sale, including flange bolts.

3) The car is currently sitting on a non-matching combo of Fuchs and after-market 5x130 performance wheels. Since we don’t have a matched set, none of the wheels shown in the photos are included in the sale. The car will be shipped/delivered on rollers and/or steelies, at the Seller’s sole discretion. THE WHEELS PICTURED ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE LISTING.

It’s redundant to mention, but some of the pictures of the storage location show an AUDI and a FIAT (X1/9) in the background. These are obviously not part of the listing.

Cons:

Paint is vintage and does hold some minor imperfections, although the original black would buff up nicely with some time.

Car is offered without wheels. Will ship on rollers or steelies.

Battery tray had some minor surface corrosion and the fascia under the front shows slight surface corrosion.

Frunk carpet shows minor discoloration consistent with the age.

Top of Dashboard is showing cracking, so would need replacement or a cap.

Driver’s door plastic top trim has a crack (see pics), although both door cards are in good shape

Fuel tank looks to be in excellent, no-rust condition. And the car has been stored indoors, in a climate controlled dry setting since it came out of the barn. HOWEVER, the tank could well contain some stale fuel (aka turpentine) and the BUYER will want to fully flush it, and replace and cycle the fuel filter, pump, etc. Flushing the lines to the fuel accumulator in the rear is highly recommended before plumbing it to a new engine induction system.

Oil Tank and supporting hardware look to be in good shape.
