Description:

1962 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

This is the 2nd bus that I bought when I got into VW’s back it in the late ‘80’s. I kept it on the back burner for a number of reasons but I find that I am at the where I am ready to let it go. I have been restorung VW buses since the ‘90’s. I just completed the work on this bus and everything mechanical was replaced is new in the last 6 months. This bus is still wearing I most of its original factory paint, a fairly rare thing after 60+ years. Of course it is faded and there are chips and dings here and there. This bus has had its outer rocker panels, outer cargo floor, and parts of the front floors replaced. Some of the outriggers were worked on as well. I had some paint mixed to the original VW code for Turkis but it does bit match the faded original. The 15” bus wheels and front and rear bumper were repainted. There is a matching wheel for a spare, but no tire on that wheel. The entire brake system was replaced from master cylinder reservoir to the brake shoes. It was upgraded to the 1967 dual circuit system. All of the door, window, and hatch seals are new.Inside the bus was completely reupholstered with new vinyl and cloth inset seats. Front bench is the original 1 year only humpback seat. The Jump seat, rear bed pedestal, and cabinets are 3/4” Birch stained “natural’ and clear coated twice. The headliner, front doors, kick panels, and rear hatch panels are 3mm Baltic Birch as used in the Westfalia campers. The rear seat folds down into a bed using the hinge mechanism from an early bay window Westfalia. The folding side table is also Westfalia. The rear wall panels are made from woven palm. New subfloor and vinyl on the floor. The interior ceiling lights have new covers and bulbs. The bus was converted to 12 volt and has new bulbs, starter, and battery. The horn is new and works. It needs a 12v armature to make the windshield wipers function. I do have the wiper arms and new blades. The fuel tank is clean and has a working sender, the dash gauge is a 12 volt original VW bus gauge. The engine is a 1641 dual port as in a 1971 bus. 34 pict 3 carb, matching svda distributor. New German BERU coil. Case is a dual relief as41 Mexican case with new bearings and lifters. Heads are good German rebuilds. Exhaust is a German made single tip, all about as stock as you can get.The throttle, clutch, and parking brake cables are all new.The transaxle is from a 1866 bus, it shifts as it should and makes no unusual noises. It stays in both 3rd and 4th gear. The gear oil was just changed. The front end was just lubed also.I have 1 key that fits the ignition, no door or hatch keys. The bus runs, drives, and stops as well as any stock old bus I have driven. They are not the 2024 standard for vehicles.I have more pics that I am happy to share.I am not interested in trades.I am looking for a single payment sale, a deposit is acceptable with the balance due in 3 days unless other arrangements are made. This bus is for sale locally so this listing may end at any time.I am happy to assist with shipping but the method and cost are up to the buyer.
