1967 Oldsmobile Toronado Blue
1967 Oldsmobile Toronado
1967 Oldsmobile Toronado, 7.0 Liter 425 Cubic Inch 385 Horsepower V8 Engine Cast Iron with 4 Barrel Carburetor, 3 Speed TH-425 Automatic Transmission, Hideaway headlights! Front Wheel Drive. Double snorkel air cleaner. Steel factory valve covers. Cast-iron exhaust and intake manifolds, vacuum advance and points. Power Windows. Power steering. The equal-length half shafts, & inner CV joints were patented by John DeLorean for use in the rope-drive Tempest in order to resist accelerative squat. In the Toronado, they helped eliminate torque steer. The passenger’s-side half shaft used a rubber damper to absorb vibrations. The taillights are rectangular & run the entire width of the rear of the car, with the license plate in the middle. The dual exhausts come out two notches in the bottom of the beautiful rear chrome bumper. Front and rear bumpers are recessed in the body, there is no brace sticking out causing the bumpers to be out away from the car. This creates a smooth, aerodynamic & dynamic look. Both front and rear bumpers, wraparound. Power windows, both front and back. Beautiful vertical rib stitched door panels with buttons & grab handles. Split bench seat, two-tone blue cloth with a vinyl section in the middle and fold out armrest. The interior shows wear and tear and is original, yet elegant and designed well. The Toronado has a very unique dash/gauge cluster design. The main feature is two chrome slanted fins, with the steering wheel and steering column centered in the middle. This curves off at the bottom to the left, and to the right. The gauge assemblies are not only recessed but have slanted down rectangular bezels. One of our favorite stock factory designed steering wheels, it resembles an airplane “yoke” in the middle with 4 horizontal inverted “V” spokes connected by chrome curves. Painted steel dash. The vinyl dash pad is in very good condition. A side body flare connects flared out upper wheel well sections on front and rear wheels, almost like a Corvette, but more flat than sharp ridged. Aquamarine K paint has some blemishes but shows well. 85% original sheet metal. The quarter panels have never been replaced. There does appear to be a new floor pan under the driver seat. Dual exhaust runs parallel that crosses right and left sides with sideways mounted cherry bomb mufflers. Serves two purposes it creates backflow pressure to the monster, big block and sounds great. One of GM’s, and America’s, only domestically built front-wheel-drive cars until the late 1970s. Factory steel wheels and hubcaps.
