Description:

1961 Porsche 356

This is a 1961 Karmann Hardtop 356b t-5 which has been owned by the same family since 1964. According to one source, it is one of 1048 karmann hardtops which were made as cabriolets and then a hardtop was welded on permanently by Karmann coachworks. Most were converted back to cabriolets. This one has remained a hardtop and therein its value and rarity have also remained intact. It presents well, but needs at least battery panel, one long/rocker, and mechanical restoration. It would benefit from floor replacement, but a couple patches would work. I suspect it is matching numbers. Awaiting kardex. Count on going through engine/transaxle and master cylinder and wheel cylinders. The brake hardware looks great under the drums which are not rotted either. This car was well-used and loved, but also was stored inside since the 1990s on concrete. Original key included and turns the ignition. One could restore the bottom of the car and do a survivor look. It was repainted with original color at some point in the early 1980s. I am financing a home, so I am thinning the collection or else I'd keep it. VIN 200950. engine # P*085362 Super Engine was rebuilt at 67956, but that was over 30 years ago! Current mileage is only 69490.This is the last 356 project I am offering. The reserve is low for a car as rare and complete as this one. 50+ year long term owner cars are getting very hard to find as most were sold or junked decades ago. The son of the longtime owner had the foresight to save this car from "the crusher," in the 1990s. The only reason that this was for sale is because the family retained another Porsche which needed some substantial mechanical work and needed funds for that work. The car has many stories associated with it and it is affectionately known as "struggle bug."
