1972 Ford Bronco Explorer plus Sport Package
1972 Ford Bronco
Up for bids is anamazingly rare *unicorn* 1972 Ford Bronco with spectacular patina! Only 58,000original miles. This particular Bronco is what is known as a "twinpackage" Bronco - it was optioned both as a "Sport" and as an"Explorer." 1972 was the only model year where the trim packagescould be concurrently ordered. Also interesting to note that either of thesetrim packages would result in a 302 V8 engine coming standard...this however iswhere it gets VERY unique...our Bronco was *special* ordered with the 170 cubicinch "Thriftpower" inline 6 motor ('72 being the final year of the170 as well). It features a standard three-on-the-tree manual transmission. Ithas a Dana 44 up front (they became standard in '71) as well as a Ford 9 inchrear with 4.11 gears in the back. The exterior is finished in "LightGoldenrod Yellow" (color code "X" for 1972). This Bronco wassold new at McCarney's Ford in Bismarck, North Dakota and it spent 95% of itslife just down the street from the dealer it was first sold at. The story goesit was traded back in at McCarney's in 1982 and that the son of the dealershipowner bought it and left it sit in his barn since 1984. It was then purchasedin 2020 and shipped to Pennsylvania where it underwent an extensive mechanicalrestoration while being mindful of its gorgeous original paint and patina. Therock solid western frame was completely gone through and refinished. It thenreceived ALL new body mounts, steering and suspension. The shocks were colorkeyed to Light Goldenrod Yellow. All new brake lines and brake hardware wasinstalled, a new master cylinder, proportioning valve and booster wereinstalled along with a 1977 front power disc brake conversion kit. The steeringwas converted to a Borgeson 4 turn power steering gear box with a Saginaw powersteering pump. A 3 groove crank pulley from a 1964 Falcon was installed toaccommodate the steering V-belt. The Holley Sniper 6 cylinder fuel injectionkit was added, eliminating the original Carter YF carburetor. An electric fuelpump with a pressure regulator was added, as a result a chrome Morosomechanical fuel pump block off plate was installed. A full vehicleCentech wiring harness was installed. LED headlights were installed. All newbulbs were installed. A new Interstate battery was installed. A new alternatorwas installed along with a voltage regulator and starter solenoid. A completeOE style exhaust system was installed, a new manifold and manifold gasket wasinstalled. New valve cover gasket was installed. All fluids and filters werechanged. Both differentials/axles werepulled, rebuilt, resealed, refinished and reinstalled. The seats werereupholstered and repadded. The dash board was replaced, the radio was upgradedto a Retrosound Huntington bluetooth radio with Sirius XM satellite and handsfree calling. A factory style tachometer was installed. The blower motor wasreplaced. The steering column was sent out, refinished and rebuilt. An OEM 1972Bronco steering wheel and horn button was installed. The front windshield wasreplaced.
